Hey, maybe you won't like this advice, but I'd say forget film school. Do it the Tarantino way, watch lots of movies.

It'd be better for you to go do a University, major in Marketing or Business, and concentrate every project you have on the entertainment industry. Go to a school with a decent film program, in a city where there are tons of independent films, and start working in the industry and making friends/connections as soon/much as you can. Some schools will let you use/borrow the equipment even if you're not in the film program. Make friends with the film students and help them on their projects.

For whatever discipline you thought you'd want to study at film school (D.P., director, producer, screenwriter, editor), buy $500 worth of books instead on the subject (or all the subjects), and invest in a camera such as a DVX100 or XL2 to start producing your own stuff.

Work with everyone and anyone you can, learn from them. Soak up knowledge like a sponge.

Live an interesting, creative life. Get out in the world and experience as much as you can. These experiences will open up your mind and help you channel your creative energy.

These are just my tips, and this method is by no means best for everyone.

Most importantly of all, enjoy life and don't worry about choosing any specific path. There are many ways to get to your final destination and in my experience the path always picks you, not the other way around.

Best of luck,

David
