Lower Thirds - How to animate?

How would I go about making some cool animated lower thirds? I am speaking of the kind like you would see on the SPEED channel where they have a NASCAR stock car whizz across the screen and then reveal the drivers name on the screen. I shot a celebrity Softball game over the weekend and wanted to use an animated batter swinging the bat and when the bat swings around you would see the celeb's name.

Now that I think about it, I could have shot a batter swinging the bat at the game against Green screen and reduced his size in post or something. The good thing is that I do have a shot of someone warming up swinging the bat. I am going to try a 8 pt garbage matte and then reduce the size to fit in the Lower 3rd section of the screen and see how that will look.

you should probably use an animation app such as after effects or motion to pull this off. shooting the bat on green screen would be a great idea. create your animation of the reveal of the name and then overlay it on your bat using a transfer mode so it looks like its animating on the actual bat.
