Lowell Light kit question for DVfilm???

I know that Lowell light kits (Totas, DP, Omni, etc) are usually used for interviews & still photography, but can you get away using a light kit like this for DV filmmaking?

I know how Robert Rodriquez used Photofloods for his first feature, so I assume Lowell light kits should be better than this...I assume.

Has anyone ever used a Lowell Light Kit like I mentioned for filmmaking?

Reason being...someone is selling this kit for cheap.
 
It ain't the lights, it's the skills.

Lowels? Better than Home Depot, not as good as Arri, Mole, Altman and Cool Lights for many situations.

if it gives your film the look you want, it doesnt matter if its an 18K par array or 5 flashlights ducktaped to a broomstick.
 
Yes, as stated above...it is what you do with the lights that count. It is harder to control open face lights, that is why the aren't used as much in film-making. There are several things that you can do to help, like make or buy a chimera for either of them, controls and softens.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I just saw another thread talking about the cool lights and they sound pretty affordable and better for filmmaking.

I think I should invest my money there as opposed to the purchasing this lowell light kit. Especially, with all the positive testimonies about these lights.
 
Everyone is right on the money. It depends on how you want to tell your story. Based on that, you should select the TOOLS that will best help you.

Lowell makes a nice/affordable lighting fixture. I have used them on many occasions. They are a good little tool that can be used for everything from interviews to dramatic low key lighting. They are light, so you can even hang them if need be (with the proper equipment of course.)
