Someone has offered me a practically-new Rifa-lite 88, with 1K bulb and stand for $475.

New this would be $650 or so...what do you think? Deal or no deal?
Thanks.

the 1k rifa lite rules.

I own one, and have an arri-lite 1k with chimera at work, and i like the rifa better.

If you could use a good softbox, then go for it. Try before you buy.

The Rifa is my fav light from Lowell - pops right up in 10 seconds and you're ready to go -

as softboxes go, you can't go wrong with it

I've got a Rifa LC-66 and like everyone else I love the quick set up. One drawback, however, is that some accessories are very expensive - a 40 degree eggcrate is about $250. at B&H.

One other thing to consider is whether or not to put your money towards a nice soft flourescent light instead, like from CoolLights (www.coollights.biz), which is a DVXUser sponsor. For the same money you could get one of their 4x55w portable units.

On the other hand, I've just looked into converting my Rifa-66 into an EX model, using their retro kit (yours would be the LC-78 conversion kit) for $138. at B&H. The EX lets you plug in different lampheads, like a single or triple standard edison plug for spiral flourescent bulbs. Unfortunately, those little spiral bulbs don't generate a lot of lumens, so I'm thinking about getting a medium to mogul converter that will let me plug in one of Coollights' massive 200 watt 8U, high CRI flos - I'm not positive this will work (e.g. it might be too front-heavy), but it would give you the equivalent of about 600W tungsten.

Good luck!
