Low Price Shotgun Mic

Now I am not using a Shotgun mic or anything like that. I am doing 99% of my videos with a "Sennheiser ew 112-p/122-p G3", and the other 1% i don't put any sound on, because the sound of things off in the distance is crappy with the on board mic!

I was wondering if getting even a cheap price Shotgun was worth the money, something like this?

So that 1% of video might be better than nothing. Or would that be so bad that I may as well just stick with the built in, therefore nothing?

The other thing that would influence using one or not, is if it interfered with the Senn 112/122 voice pickup. I have that on top of the camera and I would just be putting the Shotgun in the holder on the right. Could that interfere with the sound pickup off the Wireless, even if the shotgun wasn't turned on?

- It depends.. if it's touching or blocking the antenna 'line-of-sight', range could be compromised.

Yes, it is most probible there would be short blocks. A person standing in the middle giving instruction while i have the camera pointed off at the students.

Yes, I did watch those, and I know that the best use for a shotgun mic was to be pointed at the person talking. That is exactly why I was asking if i would get better general (inside and out) sound just from using one.

First video is about which mic to get: Audio Technica 875R ($169).

I think you'll hear a difference, that it will sound a little bit better than your on-camera mic. To answer your other question: interference with the one already there? I doubt it.

Also heard good things about that guy.

Remember, shotguns are better for exteriors or walla than for interior voice. That guy above is smaller so should be good overall.

I liked the AT4073A a lot for the money. Might sell mine. But it's a very hot mic and super directional, surely less forgiving than the guy above. But I see it used for like $200 and it is not far from the higher end mics.

The AT897 is also a decent mic.

Any recommendations for one in the $200 price range that isn't Phantom Powered?
As much as I like the reviews and sound of the AT875R, I need a mic for outside that runs on a battery. :(
