Low Headphone Output from HD Camera

I've done a couple of mixing/recording jobs with the Panasonic HMC150 & HVX200- on both occasions the headphone return is rather quiet... I'm using a 2 XLR & 1 stereo 1/8"snake from Wendt X3 Mixer to the camera. When I monitor the return volume the sound is almost half as quiet as the mix volume.

Should I add a headphone amplifier into the mix in order to get a stronger return signal? I've checked the feed to the cameras & that's been fine- it's just quite a bit difficult to hear the return. I've also made sure that the audio out is on full, so that hasn't helped.

The hvx200 does have a quiet return.
Try coming out of the RCA's on the side of the camera for a cleaner signal (you can buy a rca to female 1/8 adapter for a couple bux)

But it will still be a decent amount quieter. The SD 442 has a dedicated
return volume on it, and even cranking it to the max doesnt get it equal.
Its just the way it is.
Just boost your headphone volume at the mixer and know that the extra noise
you hear isn't being laid to tape (at least not as bad as it seems)
