I am in the process of purchasing microphone(s) for a short film that I'll be shooting in the new year. Due to the fact that I'll be recording dialog both indoors and outdoors, my guess is that I'll need to different kinds of microphones. My budget might be somewhere in the region of $300-$400 for these mics, to use on my Zoom H4n. I was thinking of getting the Audio Technica AT875R (with wind protection) for dialog that'll be recorded outdoors but can anybody recommend a mic that would be suited to recording indoor dialog and that wouldn't overshoot my budget?

The 875r is an excellent choice for outdoors (in your budget), for indoors try the Avantone CK-1 kit , I believe it sells for approx $150 or so with 3 capsules (hyper, cardioid and omni)

Good luck

I have been looking high and low for a CK-1, and finally found one today in northern Cal. Seems that Avant is seriously back-ordered on this mic. I had placed an order with Amercan Music Supply who was supposed to receive their shipment Dec. 20 and got a call saying they were delayed until Jan. 21. I called about 15 different suppliers before finding one in stock. The salesman had it in his hand so I placed the order and should receive this mic next week. I'll keep my order in to Amercan and by the end of January will have a pair. Everything I'm reading about this mic says it's worth a shot.
