Low-Budget DIY alternatives to large ND gels/double nets to bring down windows

Hello,

I am wondering if any of you have any low-budget DIY alternatives to bringing down the exposure on a window in the shot during a daytime interior scene?

Large ND gels and double nets are a little pricy to rent for me. Have any of you used some sort of bed sheet or screening from, say, Home Depot and had luck? Unfortunately we don't have the luxury of lighting with large HMIs.

The window is covered with blinds, but is still way over exposed.

Thanks and I appreciate any feedback!

How big a window are we talking about here, and what's your budget?

Rental of a frame & rags is around $15 a day, which is likely going to be less trouble and expense than trying to DIY it.

Even purchasing bobinette from a material store will likely cost more than a rental.
