This clip isn't actually the best for showing the footage so you can see it's DSLR. However the other one's are all NSFW so check them out if you're over 18 - search Louis CK Louie.

I have seen the show and at first thought the same. Some of it may be DSLR but if you watch his credits on his first episode there some are reference to "RED". "Red tech".. or" Red edit " Something like that.

Ah fair enough. I was certain that the combination of wide angles (indicating viable shooting in tight environments) as well as the skin tones were 5d7d!

the fact that people would mistake red for dslr is either really good or really bad, depending on which side of the fence you sit. many people here champion dslr as a great low cost alternative. but if you go and post this thread over on reduser, be prepared to be burned at the stake.

I think people want it to be a DSLR for obvious reasons, but there is enough going on in that show where a DSLR would not hold up. Most of the episode i saw was handheld with quite a bit of left and right movement/panning with no evidence of wobble or skew. Skins tones looked very natural, and i have yet to get my 7D to produce skin tones without a yellow/orange push in low light.

So I'd say the show looks great and you can attribute that to the RED being in capable hands. A DSLR would get you close but it would be pretty obvious, to me at least, that it's a DSLR. You wouldn't need a thread like this to know it.

The show is great and Louis CK is a genius. Best half hour comedy since Seinfeld. They are structured in a similar way and it's also about 'nothing', which really means it can be about anything, but because it's on F/X it's free to be as raunchy as it wants to be.

Has anyone seen his old show lucky louie?
only on for 1 season on hbo (or another premium cant remember)
funniest sitcom ive ever seen in my life.

Shame they pulled it.
Probably because it was extremely vulgar :D

I think the show is a bit bipolar. It sometimes takes itself seriously and other times is all about random humor. If you've seen the first four episodes you'll know what I mean. I just think the approach of the show is still undetermined. For instance, it drags and drags on a poker game discussing gay perception in comedy, while at other times an awkward scene is suddenly shattered by a quick escape via a random helicopter. The show is funny, but the mood/style is very scattered. Not sure I like it terribly. His standup comedy is just as , or even more funny. He doesn't need a television show with visuals to make me laugh harder. I'd just as soon watch his standup or even simply listen to it.

All your criticisms are exactly the reason I like the show. I'm glad they went with amore anecdotal approach and didn't try to foist any kind of narrative or specific tone onto the show as it allows the comedy to come from any direction. The poker scene I thought was unexpectedly poignant while also funny. I like that I don't know what I'm going to get with each episode.

Yes it does look great... but the one episode that made me think DSLR there was a wide shot of a brick building(?) I think it might have been the first episode , and it had REALLY bad aliasing and more', I mean VERY noticeable and distracting. And I usually could care less about nitpicking any kind of digital video-- Then I saw RED in the credits and figured well i guess no DSLR. But I suppose that is just the limits of those kinds of sensors.

Overall the show is well shot, looks good and makes me laugh!

i did an episode of Writer's Draft on this a long time ago, back when the show was going to premiere in january. Louis saw my HVX w/ Letus and said "what kind of camera is THAT?!" We got to talking about cameras and how he was doing the whole show on RED and was loving it. And before he left I made sure to tell him that I love Pootie Tang.

Here's the Writer's Draft episode, if you're interested (i shot it and cut it and my brother did sound): http://www.hulu.com/watch/161410/writers-draft-louis-ck-of-louie

Anybody still watching?...This show is still kind of a potluck grab bag of vignettes but I like that element of surprise. You never know what you're going to get. Every now and then there's an amazing moment, like Louie's comedian friend telling him he's going to kill himself. The whole scene was pitched perfectly, both funny and sad at the same time. Mostly sad. Doug Stanhope did a phenomenal job with the character. And the scene when Louie tells Pamela how much he loves her. That scene, for me, is when Louie CK became a real actor in my eyes...Anyway, I find it hilarious that this show got nominated for an Emmy for Best Editing. I think it was only given to the show because Louie himself edits it. It's actually not that well cut. It's pretty sloppy at times. But the novelty of the lead actor writing, directing and also editing probably got it votes.

I watch when I can, which unfortunately isn't too often. I think it's a fantastic show though. I really like Lewis CK to begin with, and I like the darker take of his show a lot.

There is a pretty good thread on REDuser about the show and production of it, from people who worked on it.

I like this show, but it's dark. I think that's a strength and part of why it's good, but it's the kind of show that you can't watch in large doses, and I think that limits the viewership. It's interesting that there seems to be a very thin line between the show and his life. A lot of comics are known for being manic depressive and having tumultuous personal lives. I feel like this show is covering whatever tumult may have been part of his marriage. I hope it goes darker and actually tackles that if it gets a third season.

RED MX with Super Baltars. I know 3 of the DIT's.

And FYI.... Louie own the glass...... i think thats so cool..... he writes, directs, and edits himself.

The first season is available on Netflix. I had never heard of it, until a friend recommended it. I love it. It has such an odd style. And I love that it's not strictly comedy. The Bully episode, in particular, is pretty much straight drama.
