Lots of trouble rendering as .mov

We have sony vegas 8. The computers we work on are Vista.

I have a distributor who is requesting everything in uncompressed .mov files. We have yet to be able to render anything at all in a .mov

We can't even get a 57 second trailer to work via .mov let alone the 94 minute movie.

What normally happens, is it finishes rendering. We then play it back, and it is very very laggy. It will just lag where the picture freezes for 20 seconds and then jump to the right spot for about 1 second and then freeze again. The entire rendered version is just very herky jerky and choppy.

At first we thought it might just be that the file was fine, and the computer just couldn't handle it, but we've tried it on 3 different computers(one of them a pretty powerful one) and the same thing happens on all of them.

So far i have not been able to get one suitable render to send anyone and the distributor is wanting this stuff asap.

Any ideas ?

If it's uncompressed, you're going to have a tough time playing it back on any computer -- especially if it's HD at all.

To see if the file is OK, you can try bringing it into a timeline and stepping through the frames -- if the frames are there, it's probably OK as a file.

Try rendering out a more compressed -- like DV, say -- .mov file and see if it works.

Thanks David,

Yeah, it appears to have worked just fine. I had been thinking since it was jumpy on the play back, it was rendering incorrectly.

Much appreciated as always!!!
