Lots of questions...

Ok sorry guys...I'm working on my first music video and I'm doing stuff that I haven't done before...and I'm having a really hard time figuring this stuff out....

1. How do you make things fast motion or slow motion...I looked at the Slo-mo post but that didn't seem to help.. I typed in 50.0 in the playback rate but it just kept replaying it in not very good quality.

2. what the heck are envelopes...and how do I use them...I tried maessing around with them but nothing seemed to change.

hmmm well actually thats all I can think of...but I'm sur eI'll have more...have have used vegas contents and some has helped me and I will use that before asking. Thanks

Re: Lots of questions...

If you add a velocity envelope to the track you will see a line drawn in the middle of your clips. If you double click on the line you will add a node were you clicked (little block) you can then drag the block up or down. up= faster down=slower.

You can add as many as you need . The more you drag the line down the slower the video will play back and higherthe faster.
It will also show you the percentage that you have changed the speed.
Hope this helps.

Re: Lots of questions...

Yeah I know what you are talking about....I tried it and when I first did it it just seemed very choppy so I wasn't sure if that was the correct way of doing it...ok thank you

Re: Lots of questions...

Have you tried adding a Video Supersampling envelope to the footage where you have changed the speed?

Re: Lots of questions...

My experience with slow motion in Vegas with progressive scan video (DVX) - esp. 24p - is you must DISABLE resampling (right click on an event and go to "switches") in order to get usable slow motion. Otherwise it looks like crap. I think the resampling thing was designed for 60i video. And if you know a scene is going to play as slo mo shoot it 30p with a relatively high shutter speed (e.g., 1/120) and then drop that on your 24p timeline.

Re: Lots of questions...

well I'm trying to speed things up as much as I can...and I tried the velocity thing and well it didn't speed anything up that much...I want it faster....is this something you can only get in AE?

Re: Lots of questions...

There is a way to go faster in Vegas. Right click the clip that you want to speed up, then adjust the number (i'm not infront of vegas at the moment) at the bottom of the dialog. It should say 1 in the box right now. If you change it to another number, up to 4 or 5, that will drastically speed up your footage. I think the dialog is based on the percentage of frames of the 24 or 30fps that you have in your preferences.

Re: Lots of questions...

Look at the thread Barry_S posted, about free vegas scripts. One of them is called Time Bandit and will let you speed up a clip as fast as you want.
