Lots of dropped frames

I've always been able to capture fine. Suddenly I can't capture without getting a TON of dropped frames and skipping sound. I've tried everything so far. Memory is fine and settings are fine. It might be the cable or maybe my the 1394 IEEE port my laptop, but I need to rule out if it is something on my computer. Has anybody had this problem? Any drivers or anything I can do? It does this for several different capturing programs so i know it isn't vegas. any advice?

is your hdd nearly full?
Might be worth doing a defrag. Vegas needs to be able to write to a nice large clean area of your hdd. If its writting amoungst broken bits of old deleted files it will choke. Also worth trying a clean external hdd.

The way I have worked this around is by creating a new account in my computer with no programs running. No anti virus, no firewall, no internet. I go to Explorer, fire up the Vegas Capture utility and I can guarantee you that you will have no dropped frames after that.

Cheers

The usual culprits:

Fragmented hard drive
Anti-virus
Auto backup (like Memeo)
Previewing audio (if there are a lot of background processes)

From my experience with dropped frams, it is always the computer and never the cametra.

Do what the others have suggested. De-Frag---turn off anti-viruses, etc.

Or do as Depasan suggested.
