doesnt seem like that many people are going, the theatre said only 150/500 tickets have been sold when i asked friday. the less people the better anyways

Can't stand the extended versions :(

I thought I was the only one. On balance maybe Fellowship is improved the most, namely the extra beats between Aragorn and Boromir, the cave troll sequence, and the stay with Galadriel. The rest of the scenes in all three seem redundant, giving us the same information, and/or worse, undercutting the suspense of certain moments, for instance, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas showing up with the ghost soldiers in the final battle, the surprise of which is spoiled in the extended version.

The theatre was PACKED. It was very quiet though, no cell phones or people chatting. Lol at the quiet parts of the film it was so quiet in the theatre you could hear a pin drop

Question for everyone, do people clap sometimes when you go to the movies? Yesterday they basically gave The Fellowship a standing ovation, which doesn't make much sense because its not like Tolkien or Frodo were there, they were basically clapping at the screen :/

Ps. Three hours and twenty minutes is wayyyyyyy too long to sit in a movie theatre

I don't think I'll ever make a film that long, because after seeing it the first time, not many people will invest 3-4 hours to sit down and watch that movie again. Maybe once a year they would but thats it

I despise clappers dating back to Middle School when, on that rare day the teacher didn't feel like doing crap, we were able to watch a movie. Perhaps, when the film was finally over, we clapped at having a free period to do nothing and that's carried over into the subconscious of some folks when they go see movies. I don't clap - I think it's pointless. Like you said, no one is there representing the movie.

All that being said, I can kind of understand people showing their appreciation at classics. I remember a lot of folks clapped when that "LUCASARTS" showed up for the first time in Episode I

I like the movies, but I laughed when someone said "Bored of the Rings" on the extended versions. You know, if they just cut out about 50% of the 'helicopter flying over the heros as they travel across this mountain/field/valley/snow" shots, the movies would probably be half as long! :)

if they were trying to shorten the movie, they could have gone with (how 'title' should have ended), with the birds just flying over "mount doom i think".

on a side note,

is it explained better in the books:

- 'the eye' stayed alive by some kind of magic and asked 'the white wizard' or someone to build the watch tower. or was it summoned some time later.
- after they beat 'the eye' at the prolog, they did not conquer his 'fortress' (the place with the gate and the mountain).
- how come the 'black riders' just decided one day that they could search for and find the ring so effortlessly. did they just woke up one day, and decided it was a nice day to get the ring.
- how come they found 'golom' after he lost the ring.
- how come they found the fellowship after the cave, did they come all the way from the watch tower or the wizard tower to that place outside the cave just in time to meet the fellowship.

i thought they could have shortened the prolog, since it wasn't not that solid.

I always think it's cool when that happens, no one asking or expecting us to react that way--it's just pure love for the film. If I made a film and people reacted that way in theaters across the world, I would image that would feel pretty awesome.

Those are very good points about the prolog but it doesn't matter much to a crazy person like me who wishes that the trilogy was 100 hours long. I want to be in the Hobbit so badly! Anyone headed to New Zealand and want to stow me in their carry-on?
