Lost Luggage - Tripod

Ughhhh. Just got back from a shoot and the only item I checked with my tripod (503). Thankfully it was missing on the flight home or I would've been in trouble. But, what a hassle. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it shows up today and all's well. I didn't even change planes. Simple flight from FL to NJ.

Ooh that sucks. I bet it shows itself eventually. Keep harassing NJ baggage service until it does. If they dont offer demand courier service to your location.

we just flew form LA to SF yesterday and only 4 bags made it on our flight, the rest of the bags came 30 - 40 minutes later on a different flight... So most of the people that where on the plane where pissed a bit.

A few years ago I flew from Seattle to Guatemala, changing planes in Texas and El Salvador (yes I know it's south of Guatemala). Anyways I got off the plane and my suitcase with all of my clothes was not on board. Infact, a plane with about 150 people only had 3 checked bags. hmmmmm, must be alot of people packing lightly. I ended up having to go a week before I got my bag back, lets just say I have alot of authentic Guatemalan clothing.

I lost a bunch of camera gear on a flight to the Bahamas once. Never did get it back. Was using park benches anything I could find to double as a tripod.

On a flight out to California last year, I thought they had lost my tripod which was in a Nalpak tough case. Well, they put it in a special section for oversized baggage. Sat at the luggage carousel for about twenty minutes before I recalled that some airports will put golf clubs and other larger pieces in an oversized luggage area. :)

When my Mom visited me last year she brought a black suitcase and tied a red & white checkered ribbon to the handle, so she could quickly recognize it as her bag. After getting her suitcase, with the red & white checkered ribbon, we went to the hotel where she opened the bag and said, "This is not my bag!" We then drove all the way back to the airport and jumped through some hoops to find her real bag. What are the odds? Two people flying on the same plane that both thought of tying red/white ribbons to their black luggage so it would look different.

Good luck with getting your tripod back. I have a feeling you'll see it again.

just checked the website for baggage updates and the good news is now atleast it says it exists. I haven't gotten the call yet... but I'm thinking it will all work out in the end.

What airlines was it that had a website for baggage updates?

Hawaiian Air just lost one of my bags in Jan. The hoops I am going through to get compensation are on the level of a tax audit - almost. They won't cover eqt or jewelry (and some other things) and they want receipts for everything over $100. They're only going to pay the devalued amount not replacement value (if it was a $150 jacket bought a year ago, they will only give $150-x).

Then everything has to be notarized. I've already been warned by others it's going to be a battle back and forth.

American Express will pick up some of the loss after the airlines has determined what it will pay. Gotta love AE.

When you get off the plane, rush down to the baggage claim and position yourself so you see the bags come down the chute. They no longer have anyone checking baggage tags and they'd rather not pay anyone to even monitor the area for theft. So it has become a thieves paradise. The next bags I buy are going to be some awful bright print.

That's good news. Congratulations!!!

Did you take pictures of the reunion? lol You should get a picture of you hugging the tripod with "Welcome Home" signs in the background.

Excellent! I've been watching this thread as if I were tracking a missing persons case. Glad you have it back with you!

Happy ending!
