Lost in Translation

I laughed so hard at Legends of the Fall. It was just so bad. I thought it was a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 spoof of a movie.

Brooding Brad... he broods, chicks swoon. Nice gig if you can get it.

Legends of the Fall; I just do not get this movies appeal.

Pitt has done some good things; but as you guys always make reference of; those movies are good in spite of him

Se7en, Interview w/ a Vampire ... The rest of his reume I am not impressed with. I find Fight Club to be way overrated. I do not get this movies 'Cultish' appeal. Snatch sucked, The Mexican sucked (As does Julia Roberts), Spy Game was lame, Anything with Soderberg sucks ....

-

Again; do nto get his appeal. It's like the stomach from Thelma and Loiuse was the big sensation and it never went away. I don't hate Brad Pitt but his commanding of a $20,000,000 payday seems absurd. He isn't exactly a box office draw is he ?

...the big one.

I still gotta harken back to Kalifornia. He was actually good in that. Look up trailer trash in the dictionary and there's a picture of his character.

Now that you mention it, John...

I think you may be right...something happened to Pitt after the millennium. His films in the 90's were night and day compared to his body of work over the last 6 or 7 years. WTF?

Yes yes

I was into 'Kali' (Not Kali-maaaaaa!). As earlier stated, an aerly David Duchovny is always coll. I'm still a fan of his even though he ain't done shite since X Files.

The 2 actresses in Kali I alwasy wondered how they got jobs:

Juliette Lewis (Always perfectly cast as White Trash)

Michelle Forbes (Just too butch for me) ? Even originally watching the film I was thinking 'Skannk!'

Kali-Ma ! Kali-Ma!

Hey Callaghan

Pitt seems to concerend with 'Stardom' than actually being a literal talent. He's married to Jennifer and now it's Angelina and he's hanging with Clooney and Soderberg and Robert's...

All of those people seem to take themselves a tad too serious don't ya think ?

And why is Pitt always being cast in these period pieces ? He has as much business being in a period piece as Keanu Reeves.

Wow, a discussion I haven't been in yet, yet I have an opinion regarding.

Regarding Brad Pitt, I think that there are two Brad Pitt's to look at. The first is the recent Brad Pitt, star of such forgettable films as Troy, The Mexican, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Oceans 11, Oceans 12. This is the Brad Pitt that I agree with Hudson regarding that is extremely overrated, obsessed with stardom, and seems to remind me of that cult of celebrity obsesses with their own star status.

Then there is this other Brad Pitt. He was involved in Kalifornia, Se7en, Fight Club, Legends of the Fall (which I liked), A River Runs Through It. This is the Brad Pitt who constantly took risks in the roles he took, that was the pretty boy you wanted to hate, but he was able to convey this tortured soul that grabbed you and pulled you into the film.

I'm a fan of the second Brad Pitt I listed maybe for the roles, the writing, but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say because he did his job the right way.

The other issue is, of course, Lost in Translation (to make my post somewhat on topic). For me, I don't understand the near cultish following of this film. I know the directors last name is Copolla, but in all honesty, at the end of the day story is king. This movie is paced so slowly I thought I was watching Open Range or some other story that should have been told in 35 minutes but stretched on for two hours. I could not get into this film. I tried, I know it is one of those films that you should like, but I just don't get it, don't like it, and don't respect it.

I think if Rob Zombie had directed it, then it could have been much cooloer.

Rob Zombie should direct everything now in my opinion.

Rob Zombie directing LIT 2 with Stallone and Brad Pitt, with guest appearance by Michael Jackson! Heehee! The next musical extravaganza!

I too am not seeing the big deal on Kirsten Dunst

She's kind of a hot lil minx but that's about it.

If you like your Babes with down's syndrome and a lazy eye, with a mosquito bump chest and barfight teeth, hell yeah she's a looker.

Well, you know how I feel about Roth, Machinist.

Hack? I wouldn't go that far.

Yes, his films are a love em or hate em type deal.

What about Alexandre Aja?? He's up there.

I haven't gone to see Hills yet.

Someone close to me intentionally ruined it for me out of spite and i've been too upset to actually go to the theater and watch it.

So i guess i'm gonna hold out till i see it to make that call. I totally feel Aja has the talent but I'm not sold on whether he knows how to implement it for maximum impact.

As far as I'm concerned Zombie has proven he has both talent and knows how to use it with Rejects. So for now he rules with a filthy filthy fist.
