Losing Sound during editing on timeline

I recently was working on a project and noticed my audio keeps cutting out while playing on the timeline. I have no sound effects on it yet. Even though it is a long project (45min) with very little cuts or video effects on the timeline. I have my audio files on a raid sata drive and my working project on a IDE internal drive (D)-not the C drive. Does the audio files need to be on the same drive as the project in order to fix this problem?
I just downloaded 6.0C. I'm also using the latest ASIO drivers for my M-audio 1010 card and have the latest bios for my NF7-S Abit card. Also I've noticed that my system tends to crash when using any VST's. So I have had to output it as a AIF file to my wavelab and then bring it back to vegas after VST's applied. Anyone else have these problems?

If you're crashing using VST's, you may well have a conflict going on. First, check your audio buffers, set them lower. This might cause some latency on playback start, but it's worth the shot. Second, you might wanna check resources. Sharing resources is a problem, especially if you have sound and vid card sharing.

Thanks for the reply...

I copied all the stock footage into my D drive and now I have no latency problems and sound loss..I thought with a 150gb transfer Sata Drive I shouldn't have any problems. But I guess I would have to put my data on the same D drive in order to edit it in real time..Maybe this is a bug but I thought SATA drives will be fast enough in the transfer.

It may well be your SATA controller is sharing a resource? SATA *should* be faster, but again...resource sharing can kill it.

How can you tell if the resource is being shared on the SATA? Also my DMA buffer is set at 128. Is that normal for a default setting on the 1010? My bitrate is 48Khz/24bit.
