No, it's not what you think, you perverts!
I've been grappling with this for many years, and I thought this might as well be the forum to come out of the closet (and no, it's not what you think, either) .
As you may or may not know, Canada is the 'hyphen-nation'. We are mostly *-Canadian. In my case, until recently, that meant 'Czech-Canadian'.
Well, not any more. This summer has turned out to be the 'aha!' moment in my life I had been waiting for. In a series of experiences that started about mid-June and continued through this past long weekend, I've come to a resting place in my psyche.
I AM CANADIAN! WHOO HOO!
And it's about time, too. Although I've been a Canadian citizen for almost twelve years now, I've still kept that old hyphen baggage with me. I can tell you, it's amazingly liberating... finally understanding and accepting the relationship one has to his new homeland.
What does this has to do with film making? Well, for one thing, it was film making that made me think of my national identity. A lot. A terrible, painful lot. And, it is most definitely a subject of my next doc (once I finish the current one which is a teeny-bit year behind schedule - err... schedule? is that Latin for 'no time table'?).
Anyway... I thought I should thank dvxuser.com for the inspiration. It's meant a lot to me.
