Losing color when capturing...

I managed to get Vegas to capture my XH A1's footage using Vegas' internal capture app, but whenever I get it in there, it seems to have lost a lot of saturation in the color. It seems kind of washed out. Is there a setting I need to adjust or is this just an unfortunate side effect of Vegas?

When you 'lost' what are you comparing it to? The standard XH-A1 camera settings are fairly flat looking - you can 'fix' that in camera or in post. In post, use the curves and correction tools...

Also bear in mind that it will look very different on a TV screen to a computer screen - TV screens have a different gamma and look much more saturated or 'bright' - not sure of the correct terminology, but they look very different.

The different capture apps shouldn't make any difference to the colours. (Although an intermediate codec could)

Ok. That's good info to consider, thank you. I'm comparing it to a Samsung HDTV.
Where are the curves and correction tools located in Vegas? I'm still pretty new to the idea of color correction. I understand it. I just don't know how to do it.

There's a couple of ways, but this is easier to explain;
Press Alt+8 to go to the Video FX panel. Drag the 'Color Curves' and/or 'Color Corrector' FX onto the clip in the timeline. The property windows of the FX will automatically appear.

To get to the Video FX chain of a clip click the lower of the two little icons that you see at the end of an event - it look like a vertical line with a blob either side of it.

Have fun with it!
