Losing audio sync after editing to tape: DVX100A/FCP

Another post from the newbie:

I recently did a 15 minute trailer with simple cuts and dissolves. I shot it on a DVX100A set on 24p (F5), captured at 29.97 fps, edited at 29.97 fps, then output back to the DVX100A to tape. About 2 minutes in, the audio cuts out for about a frame or two. No visual sync change is noticeable. Then at about 7 minutes another audio cutout is heard and it seems to be slightly off (maybe a frame). You have to really try to see it. Then at 12 minutes another, and at 13 minutes another. By the end of the trailer the audio is about a half to a full second behind the video. Also, there are certain random clips throughout the trailer where any motion of the subject in the frame seems to be "jittery". Both of these problems occur only after being edited to tape. When I play the finished cut on my computer, it plays in sync.

I tried changing output settings, pulldown settings, etc. but to no success. Also, the only pulldown setting for the timeline it allows me to do is 2:2:2:4.

Can anyone please help me with this?

Much appreciated!

Sounds like you probably have a slower mac, that's why you can only select 2:2:2:4 isntead of 2:3:2:3 which is what you want. The sync issue is probably related to the inability to select the right pulldown and the slower Mac.
You could see about adding the pulldown (maybe available in FCP 5 these days? or in After Effects, etc)
That way you coudl dump to tape without having to add it on the fly.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the system being too slow. Looks like it might be time for that G5! But I will try the After Effects idea first.

I've been through all those links that joemondello pointed out before, and just read them again, but can find nothing to help on this sync issue. Do you think if I add the pulldown at 2:3:2:3, either through After Effects or another way, that will solve the problem?

Also, when I try to open my sequence settings menu, the entire program crashes. (I can go to Sequence presets, however.)
I saw someone else had this same problem in another post long ago...but no one posted with any suggestions. Is this an uncommon problem?

Thanks again

Sync problem- Good chance it will fix the problem but no way of knowing until you do it. Might try a section that's long enough to tell the difference.

Crashing - repair permissions (disk utility app), delete fcp prefs, repair disk are all possible steps.
