I saw the LOTR Return of the King tonight with my wife. An actual date (my in-laws are in town and watched my lil monkey)

Anyhow, Shai, you are right. There is def something off about it. Is it because so much of it is CG ?

It was not a pretty picture, ya know? Seabiscut looked kick ass. This just didn't look stunning on the screen. I totally dug it as a killer film; but it was not visually amazing.

Curious... I don't know what you guys are seeing. I was viewing it more critically from a picture-quality perspective, because it was Super35 (not anamorphic) and I have a passing interest in getting my 35mm camera converted to 2-perf, so I was watching for any shortcomings, and I found it absolutely magnificent.

There's got to be some difference -- are you seeing a digital projection perhaps? A super-duper-huge screen? I don't know, there's got to be something to explain it. This is one of the biggest motion pictures in history, you'd think they'd make extra sure the prints are right, and from my experience it was, but if you saw it and it looked bad, there's got to be a reason...

I am not sure Barry. I can honeslty say while I was watching it just seemed off. I was in a normal theatre, you know, one of those ridiculous million-plexes.

It seemed overly grainy to me as if there was no detail. Maybe I'm used to the DVX? LOL

Seriously, it seemed unusually grainy, saturated. I know the film has mad color correction tricks and massive CG backgrounds (Not talking about the EXT New Zealand shots)

You know what? I feel like I was sitting to close for the screen. I wish it was in one of the older school theaters that were HUGE.
