yeah, i know it was shot on super35.. but why does it look like it was shot on DV? the blacks are too compressed, the highlights look like with no knee (sort of bad handling of the cine-gamma) gandalf looked like a flat white spot on the screen..
i'm actually quite sure that the copy i watched 2 days ago was defected.
did anyone experienced something similar??
(still.. it is a great movie!!!)

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

most of it looked a little soft when I watched it... still rocked.

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

I am not at all a fan of fantasy type stuff...

But LOTR is some of the best filmaking I have ever seen.

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

I was blown away. I thought it was some of the best footage I ever saw, beautiful and majestic. You must have saw a bad copy, or with a bad camera/screen or something, it doesn't sound like you saw the same thing I did.

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

it was a bit soft when i saw it, but i was watching on one of those big 40' -50' screens.. not sure how big it was, but it was one of the biggest theatre rooms ive been in.. was probably an ultrascreen. i was in houston TX which is not my hometown, so i dont know the deal with what exact size it was..but it was still pretty clear..just soft enough to notice it was a bit soft is all .

You guys aren't using projectors from the cold war are you?

:)

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

i think they had a lite-brite back there, and they just pulled the film off the reel in front of it.    ..actually i was suprised it held up so well with how big the screen was, im sure it would be crystal on a reg screening.

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

ha I'm with you John, I've never liked sci-fi/fantasy stuff at all... but I was convinced to see this 3rd installment by someone (without seeing the 1st two in fact)... but can say it was a great movie.

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

I do like SCIFI to a degree...

For example:

STAR TREK - HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT
STAR WARS - LOVE IT (At least the first two) (( Han is the man! ))
ALIENS - LOVE IT
STARGATE - LOVE IT

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

STAR WARS - LOVE IT (At least the first two)
Hope ur not talkin about the first 2 as in Episodes 1 and 2, cause hate to break it to you but those were 2 of the biggest pieces of crap....

Definatly a let down for the starwars series...

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

..who is han solo.. was he the little robot that popped out the laser sword thing?

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

I agree this is an extremly well made movie! from every aspect!

cinematography - amazing, couple bad shots but with 10 hours of film a couple mistakes is given. the hitchock effect was kinda un needed

shot on a dv here or there but well edited with the film.

sound/efects/vocal - well recorded and placed, well balanced with music

music- great compisition without pullin you out of the movie.

Editing - dont have a comment. other than its hard to make 1 story 3... then cut half the film for extended dvd's

art/special effects/3D - team work at a masive level! they started story boarding and art drawing in 97'

For a story written (by hand) before plus durring WW3. then released in 1953

Re: lord of the rings was shot on DV?

to virginia.. documentary, we're following an old times east german rock star, who got some kind of a neuromuscular disease and there, in virginia (don't know exactly where) he receive some alternative treatments, the very last chance of his.
it's actually (well obviously) a very sad story, cos his condition is degrading fast. this last tour to israel which i've recently made was to document his own "formal" last tour, short before he's about to lose his voice.

yep

and guess who's going to sell his DVX100 in germany and buy with the same money the DVX100A in the states?

right!

what is there in virginia anyway?
