How much of dialog is looped in for location shoots? i'm talking hollywood productions. i've heard up to 70 per cent of movies loop in the dialog for location shots.

thats depends on the movie (action , allot of fx ,) , locations , production assistent and cooperation , number of cameras , the lead acter sellery , you name it ...
i can say that i heard yoou dont hear so good , no try to proove the oposit :-)

oh that's quite interesting. I hear boom operator celery also counts. I personally don't care for vegetables.

I used to be an audio engineer/boom guy. On large productions a lot of it is dubbed. In fact almost everything. The reason is that a film set is incredibly noisy. Cameras are noisy, you can hear people moving in the background, cell phones go off no matter how many times you tell them to shut them off, people talk. Location sound is even worse as there's always some noise that doesn't fit the picture, such as a plane flying overhead, car horn or alarm, footsteps of a half-dozen filmcrew stepping on twigs.

Well done dubbing makes all the difference. A badly shot film with good dubbing will still look and feel "professional". It's not hard these days to dub, but some actors have a hard time doing it. But on the other hand, if you have a bad actor, you can sometimes replace his voice with a good actor and save a few bad scenes.
