Loooong Render Times

I am working on a timeline and have quite a few color corrections and filters added to my clips but...whenever I add a transition at this point, like a dissolve, TWO things happen:

One, I sometimes get a flicker during the dissolve. It's as if the two different plug-in effects (from the FIRST clip and SECOND clip) do not work well with each other. Does anyone know of a way to keep those effects right where I want them, yet still be able to use a dissolve transition without the flicker?

Secondly, whenever I tinker with my dissolve transitions, change the length of it, delete it, add to it, etc...I get the red bar on my timeline over both clips indicating that I need to re-render my workspace. Sometimes, re-rendering my workspace, (which may only be 2 clips of 1 minute or so), takes 10-20 minutes to render. What gives? It is making it VERY difficult to play around with effects to find what I like when I have to KEEP waiting around for my system to re-render the workspace?

My system is solid. Does anyone know of a workaround for this? Could this be a settings issue?

Thanks!

Shooter-

I am sticking with two...both are for the LOOK SUITE plug in. One is Grad Sky. This helps to give an otherwise overcast sky a nice, deep blue look. And the other is White Diffusion, which as you can imagine, diffuses the whites and lighter colors in the shots. I'm working on a wedding video. So, that plug-in makes sense.

At any rate, if I do not use these plug ins, right after one another, the dissolves work fine. But when they are in two succeeding clips, flicker.

But the render times are still long. Perhaps I should re-think my work flow? There has got to be a better way than to render the work area everytime I move a dissolve around.

I'll be 90 by the time I get this friggin' thing done...

Thanks for the suggestion Sirius...however, I am now scratching my head. I copy and pasted a two clip section, with transition, into another sequence and rendered it to post. However, in the main timeline, flickers like crazy, but as compressed re-rendered footage, no flicker. I'm sure it's just tricking me. Perhaps the low-rez is hiding the problem. Hmmm....
I'll have to get back to the thread on this one...

The Looks Suite are from Magic Bullet.

They are notorious for long rendering times and it does not surprise me to see the times you quoted. That would be normal for these. They are not Real time FX

The trick to using them is to apply them at the very last stage. ( Do not apply them as you edit)

Edit first and then apply transitions etc until you are happy.
(you can render out a Lossless Sub master DV avi without MBs)

Then set up MBs on the Sub master you made.

Tips:
Trial the MBs on a small part clip to become familiar.
Toggle them on and off in the ECW so you can scroll your timeline efficiently.

Even with a Matrox RTX 100 Extreme Pro - they are slow to preview and render. Nature of the beast. I think of it as Photoshop effects @ 25 time a second so that takes some processing grunt.

for an effect such as a dissolve pro 1.5 has to take teh two clips its dissovling and create new preview fils for them. If however you cut the clips you are dissolving to the beggingin and end of the dissovle on each clip you wil only have to render the part of the clip that the dissolve is actaully effecting. THis is a step up from older versions of premiere where you couldnt make a cut without having ot re-render a clip that had an effect applied to it. After it is rendered you should be able to move it around your timline without having to re-render either. nothin on the flicker..sorry

The flicker issue has come up before in this context.

Seems that if you render out an avi first then apply the MB, issue goes away.

Shooter-

I just want to make sure I understand you correctly...I should edit the piece simply with cuts and dissolves, then export the 7-8 minute movie, re-import, THEN apply MB?

Rick

That was the solution that worked for someone else with the flicker issue.

I do that when applying a MB anyway so have never seen the flicker thing

(BTW : I am a PAL lander - 25fps and sometimes we do not get these issues.)
