Looking to get a cheap light meter to use along side T2I

So I have a t2i with the magic lantern hack and I use the histogram to expose my shots but I feel like a light meter would really help with exposing my shots better and helping with getting a good lighting ratio. So my question is what are some cheaper light meters that would be good use to get started with? I was thinking maybe getting an older lighter meter off of ebay as i have seen them go as low as 10-40 dollars and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations.

I've read there are apps for this too (for like the iPhone). I know they are not extremely accurate, but like one guy said works as his back-up meter.

Okay so how would I use this to help me light, like how do I read lux values and use them to decide what f stop and iso to use? anyone mind explaining or linking me to a good place to learn about lux values and how to use them in video?
