Looking for white balance filter options for 4x4 matte box (like ExpoDisc)

For stills shooting I've been content with a Vivicap $10 knock-off of the ExpoDisc to set custom white balance, but I'd like to get something that will work in a matte box.
I read that ExpoDisc used to make a 4x4 white balance filter, but also read that it was too big to fit into a filter slot.
I know I could use an 18% grey card, but for one-man-band situations it's much more convenient to use a white balance filter.

What do you guys use a recommend? There has to be a better option than glueing a coffee filter to a filter holder.

I also freely admit to being a cheap-skate, so the cheaper the better, as long as it produces pretty accurate color.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

How bout a square of white diffusion, like 216. Seems to work as good as a expo disc for me. Hell even a white piece of paper will work, keeping in mind, some are less "white" than others.
