Looking for suggestions on a video

Hey guys, I am working on a video for a local hospital. I am kind of stuck on what to do, and it is driving me crazy. It seems like I have been working on it forever and will never finish it!
I followed a child going through the steps to get an operation. The hospital wants to post it on their website so that parents can log on and show their children what to expect before they have an operation. It shows the different steps and will explain it so that the kids aren't as confused/worried about the operation when they go. Good concept.
My problem: I have gotten it down to around 13 minutes, I am working on the script and it seems boring to me. I don't have any children and don't have much experience with them. If it's boring to me, I know that it is going to be boring for them. People that I have asked have said that I want to try to figure a minute per age: if the kid is 6 years old watching, then you want to make it about 6 minutes long before they lose interest and get nothing from the video. Although there is no set age for the viewer, I assume they will be anywhere from a toddler to about 10-14 years old+/- who would look at the video.
Any suggestions? The video has been shot in some clips to show the steps as a viewer (I follow the girl and show her) some shots are through the eyes of the girl (perspective).
Thanks for any advice...

Is this really for the kids or the parents? I would get some more input from others that can view your video. You could post it here, or better yet you could even show the rough version to the people who are actually paying you to make this video. They could actually approve that version. You never know.

It is more for the kids but for the parents to sit with the kids to show them. I am showing it to the sales person who is working on the script with me. I am thinking about having some friends of mine show it to their kids to get some feedback. I will have a rough draft to show it to the client, but right now I feel that it is not ready to be shown to them. I know that it won't be the most exciting and fast paced video. They want it to be more of an educational piece so that the children know what to expect.

Try to show it as a safe, friendly visit. Pretty Nurses playing with the kids, reassuring them, explaining what is going to happen. Show happy little kids after the surgery, playing Nintendo in their room, eating ice cream. Try not to dwell on the in between stuff.

Sure, it's all a horrible lie, but they aren't ready to be crushed by the real world yet ;)
