Looking for some feedback on my website ^_^

First of all, this is a bit of a WIP. I still need to get a few pictures of myself and friends taken, but I'd like some input on the general design, how the pages read, etc.

Ignore the Director's Log blog for now, I haven't even touched skinning it; I've been concentrating on the gallery/personal side of the site, and I'd like to get some input before moving onto working on the other part of the site.

I want the website to appear fairly professional, so keep that in mind.

BTW, I know there is a broken image on the "About" page. It's going to be a picture of me once I get one taken (this week supposedly). So ignore that. :cheesy:

Teh Website, yo.

So yeah, please post any comments you might have.

Thanks.

I actually think that besides content (which you'll add obviously as you create) it's very cool and the UI is really straight forward (good thing). Navigation, readability, colors, fonts, size, etc... really cool.

99% of the time someone around work asks me to "check out their site" it's like "uuggh" but this is really nice, it's a great start. Once your content is there you're set imo.

The drawing is cool, but you need some border around it, so that it doesn't touch the elements around it. Otherwise, looks good to me.

It's nice and clean. Unlike me.

The masthead (your name) is the most uninteresting piece. Which is good and bad. Good because it's not distracting from the content. Bad because it's not distracting and I can't remember whose site I'm visiting.

Overall it looks great!

As a professional webdeveloper I must say that you have put up a nice and clean website. I'ts very easy when not beeing that experienced just to put up all kinds of fancy stuff like flash, animated gifs dynamic contents,- you name it! I'm talking of my own experience... hehe. This was very nice work, the art is to keep it clean and simple.

I would recommend that you try to insert a contrast color to all this green/grey, a gentle orange might do wonders, maybe that you could use this on the 'josh' or the 'Nitschke' in the heading? I would also recommend that you maybe tried to make the headlines differ from the text, It's hard to read when all text and headings and so on are the same color. I't would also be neater if the links where a bit more visual, maybe a bit more glowing green so that they are easier to spot. Links and menues must be easy to find, visual and simple, that makes a good navigation. Otherwise good work! thumbs up.

Laffen has some good tips. Experiment with a complimentary (or contrasting) color from the green hues to make the scheme pop more. Overall a very clean beginning. Good job

Took another look at your site. Not exactly sure why we're giving you advice and praise. Your site is basically another persons template and you probably can't change it much. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. You're young and might not have a lot of design experience. Templates are made to be used. I've used them before for forums, blogs, etc. I understand. But I'm not sure what your limitations are. If we tell you to add a contrasting color are you actually able to do that? Do you have the ability to edit this template? The sketch is great, did you do that? Can you add a green line to the base of it so it seperates itself from the rest of the content? Do you have Photoshop?

Tell us more about your abilities and limitiations and we might be able to help you more. Good luck and the site does look good.

Thanks for all the tips, I'll experiment some with contrasting colors later today.

@ isara.

Yes, it is another person's theme but the color scheme is my own. I'm still trying to figure out how this software handles theme creation from scratch (it confuzzles me somewhat), so until then I decided to go with a "modded" prebuilt theme. I've changed it so that the banner is a randomly picked image, but I have yet to add images into the rotation yet.

Yes, I can edit the template cause I am 1337 like that. ;) Like I said, I've done a little of that already. It's always easier to modify than to create from scratch when you are learning something new. :)

Yes, I have Photoshop.

As for the drawing, no, I didn't do it. My friend Jessica did it for me, she's going to draw an "enter" image for me in a couple of days.

Thanks for the tips so far. :D For the Director's Log section, I'm going to try my hand at a from scratch theme (gulp); I'll update this thread when I do that. :)

Also, does the gallery seem to integrate well with the site, or should I look into modifying that a bit more?

Well, I decided to mess around with the colors some more. I modified the "Josh Nitschke" heading color on the blog section (not on the static content part yet), but I'm not sure about the new color. :undecided

However, I also changed the headlines to black (for now) because I'm having trouble finding a contrasting color that I like at the moment (I could use some help there. :D)

Also added a border to the image. Likey?

Looks better. The line at the bottom of the sketch looks good, but there shouldn't be a line to the right of the image. That looks odd.

By the way, your photos (in the gallery) are really nice. You have a good eye for photography. Dare I say it, two good eyes. :)

Keep up the good work and good luck!

I'm gonna remove the line at the right.

Aww, I wish I could say I took those, but I didn't. I dunno who took them, I just got them from the people who they feature. :)

Ok, any ideas for the color of the Josh Nitschke text? I'm not digging the brown orange.

Edit:

Also, I started work on my full original skin for the directors log. The banner will be a random banner that will show shots from the films I've worked on and set stills, etc. However, for the actual film grabs, I was thinking about embedding them in a "film strip" type image.

How does that look?

Ya it looks good.
You should have your friend draw some more pics for you.

Thanks. :D

About the pictures, yah I'm working on it. I want to pay her for them but she's being evil and saying that she doesn't charge friends. So I won't tell her what I want unless she agrees to be payed.
