looking for smaller hdd or flash card camcorder

[smok3]

hi all,

i'am looking to buy few camcorders for jurnalistic work (video for web), something along:

price: < 2000$
recording format: preferably dv or some sort of mpeg2 (to HD or cards)
xlr input(s): or at least a mic & phones input
size: smaller, i would say under 2kg
options: possibility to manually set all modes of operation, progresive 25p recording
light: the ability to mount small light or light is built into the camcorder

I must admit i can't find even anything similar to this, any clues?

Canon HG10 or HF10 (or whatever their PAL model is). No XLR inputs on either though.

Nothing a little Beachtek adapter couldn't solve.

AVCHD is out of question imho, but tnx for suggestion.

hm, how about something older like

and i add some sort of dv HD recorder? if yes, which one?

No 25p on that one. Progressive recording really limits your option as there is really only a few small cameras with that feature, fewer still with flashdrive or HD based recording capacity.

any ext. DV/HDV recorders (as small as possible) to recommend? they must be easy to purchase in EU as well?

Firestore is the only option, although the company that makes them declared bankruptcy a while back so I'm not sure if they're still available. I assume the point is mobility, so I wouldn't recommend a firestore anyway. A loose firewire connection isn't exactly secure for run and gun.

you are right, back to point one.
