Looking for PowerPoint with video software tool?

Hi all:

About six months ago, I saw some banner advertisements on a few sites about some software that was specifically designed for integrating video of a presenter with their PowerPoint presentation, all I can recall was that it had simple and easy templates for PIP of the speaker to integrate with the PPT slides, there were easy ways to swap, move and switch the size of the video PIP between the speaker and the slide, etc.

I normally don't do these sorts of productions but had a client specifically that asked me to shoot his PPT presentation, I only had a single camera so I shot him and he sent me his PPT slides. I exported JPEGs from PPT and put the thing together, it came out decently but frankly was a PITA to edit, took me way longer to make it look good than I had time for so I am looking for some software, for the Mac, that is designed specifically to do this, I thought I saw an ad but I can't recall the name of the software and Google is not being my friend. Not sure if it would be a plug-in or a stand alone program? Looking to increase my efficiency, these sorts of projects rarely pay more than a single day edit rate and they are not worth it for me to spend the amount of time it took me to mess with all of the slides, edit the video, composite it, render it, etc. If I had software made to do this and nothing else, might make it worth it to do more of these?

Any ideas or leads? I use FCP 7.04 on an MBP.

If you want to do this as a web application or local app, there is the iSpring Suite 6.x

This creates an interactive app that incorporates PowerPoint slides, graphics, video, audio, etc... Into online or local interactive applications.

Otherwise, if you don't want this to be interactive ( the user can't change anything ) and want to do this as video, I would output your PowerPoint slides as PNG graphics ( select Save As from the PowerPoint File Save As menu, and choose PNG as your output format ) This will give you the option of outputting every slide from your PowerPoint presentation as a PNG graphic, which you can then bring into your NLE timeline to mix with video. You can then do as you like mixing and matching between your video and the PNG slides and output as one big HD video. ( you need HD to read the fine text on slides )

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate it. While both of these apps look interesting, I don't think that they quite do what I am looking for which is easily edit PPT presentations with an integrated window for live video of the presenter. Dingo, I edited this video I produced in exactly the way that you suggest, it worked fine but was entirely too time consuming. And Noah, I am somewhat familiar with Screencast, (I use Episode, also made by Telestream for Flash conversions), it looks great for the screen capture part of the equation, but it doesn't seem to have any easy, simple way to integrate a movable window for the video of the speaker.

The application that I saw the ad for was specifically designed for integrating live video of the speaker smoothy with Powerpoint, generating a video clip of the two sources synced with each other. You could easily swap out the video full screen with the PPT output and vice-versa or you would easily scale the video of the speaker so that it functioned as a small PIP integrated in with the PPT slides. I can do all of this with FCP and Motion, it's just that it is so time consuming to do so, was hoping that a specialized program designed to do this and only this could save me a lot of time and effort.

Thanks for the suggestions and if I discover what this mirage I think I saw months ago is, I will update this thread to let you know.

The iSpring Suite is the simplest way I know of doing this, but there is a learning curve, as the iSpring Suite is extremely flexible and can incorporate custom programmed Flash sections within it's structure.

Software that I used to use, Authorgen AuthorPoint, is fairly simple to use but it still takes forever to produce the finished result, and it's pretty buggy software. The quality of the finished work isn't the best either because it's designed for limited bandwidth instalations. The iSpring Suite is a huge step up from AuthorPoint.

Here's a sample of an AuthorPoint presentation that I made for a local hospital about 6 years ago: AuthorPoint Presentation Sample

Camtasia is a great product, though I think it works best as a desktop/application capture tool. ( fantastic for making software tutorials )

I also found the Camtasia player kind of slow and clunky when loading in a web-browser.
