I need to get a bag. I went to B&H today to check out my options. They were recommending the Kata multi 60. The guy said that Porta-brace is not worth the money and didn't even mention the Petrol Bags. Does anyone have this bag? Are you happy with it? What would you suggest? How do the brands stack up? All opinions welcome. I will purchase the bag next week.

Thanks!!

Thanks for the feedback. Porta-Brace is obviously the ole tried and true. Is there anyone who has a petrol or Kata Bag? The shape of the Kata 60 is not a typical camera style and I wasn't really sure about that. I would love to hear from some Kata or Petrol people. Thanks again.

Here's some pictures of my Kata EXO-33 (CCC-3333) that I purchased from Rush at EVS.

Can't really say anything bad about it. It does what it's suppose to do...protect my camera.

Thanks for the pictures. I didn't see this bag. It looks like a nice size. And, are wheels on the bottom? Hmmmm

No, those are little pads. But on the back there's a slit in the fabric so you can add a trolly to pull the bag. There's actually another level under the camera. You can get there by unzipping the little slot on the bottom/back portion of the bag.

Another cool thing about Kata bags, they use a bright yellow fabric for the interiors. It makes small accesories much easier to find than in a typical black/grey interior.

I have Kata 60

I have Kata 60

I've been in the industry for 18 years and have gone through my share of bags. I think by now I should own stock in Porta Brace. True they are proven etc. But they are two to three times the money of others. I travel extensively and needed a bag to do everything. I recently purchased a Z1U and a A1U. The KATA bag holds them both securely along with all the other necessities. Light, tapes, mics, cords, charger etc. Pictures of it are deceiving. They have a hidden compartment under the camera storage which stores a ton of stuff. You can access this storage 3 ways. Left side - Right side and front. If the bag ends up a little heavy you can purchase the Kata trolly ($40) which can be inserted into the back insertion area. This bag ALSO holds my MAC G4 15" Laptop. I swear by this bag... you will not be dissapointed. Most importantly for me it meets airline specs... I never let my cameras or laptop leave my sight. This bag replaced the two Porta Brace bags I used to need.

Just my 5¢worth

Okay this is gonna sound weird. I found gear bags at Walmart that have worn almost as good as the high end stuff.

They are soft bags for fishing. They have tonnes of padding, for the inner compartment, (I think intended for keeping drinks, or fish cool), they have a tonne of extra pockets and zippers, and are built extremley heavy duty. I'm not kidding. The handles are super-sewn and reinforced and the zippers are the thick heavy-duty style. I suppose they expect fishing stuff to take a bit of abuse.

What's best is they come in a few different sizes and range from 20 to 35 dollars.

Check'em out.

Cheers,
Chris

Good tip, Chris.

I've found many things at Wal Mart and Home Depot, etc. that can be used in various production disciplines. For instance, the 8'x4' sheets of foam insulation that are covered in silver paper make for excellent reflectors and can be cut into various shapes and sizes.

tumbleweed,

hit me on PM if interested (or anyone else for that matter)
