Looking For On-Camera LED Light Diffuser

Hey all,

I have a cheap LED light that I use on my camera cage sometimes, but it's so bright that I'm worried it will be distracting at weddings. It would be great to have it always on my rig, so in those shitty situations I can just flick it on. Anyone know a good method for diffusing these things? I'm thinking of a simple gel that can be taped to the front at all times...Any recommendations would be awesome.

Thanks!
Dan

Make a "half pipe" of 250 or double it....? Wont look pretty but will soften it up without making the light that much bigger.

Buy cheap clear plastic at a home store (for replacing widows), cut to size, sand both sides with 80 grit sandpaper, glue magnets to both light and diffuser. Done.

That is essentially what came with our cheap Ikan lights, theirs are more refined but the idea is exactly the same. You can get more diffusion with lower grit sandpaper, or less diffusion with higher grit. Depending on the plastic, you may be able to fog it with things like ammonia clears or some other solvents. But the sanding idea is easy, cheap, and relatively non-toxic.

If you need really diffuse and something that will knock a lot of light out (probably too much light), you can buy a thin sheet of white Delrin, maybe 0.030 inch thick if you can find it. There may be some other opaque acrylics that you can buy and if they are thin enough you will get some light transmission.
