Looking for maps for a production

[8string]

Need to insert a specific location map (perhaps with slight motion, etc). Anyone have experience with who has (or can quickly and cheaply) produce a map of a location on the globe? Not needing Google Earth. Would rather have a general purpose map with less detail. I've been told once a while back that some guys in Austria did maps, but can't remember who they were.

Are you talking about a custom map, or just a standard map? If the latter, try the USGS.

how about nasa's worldwind? it's a free download.

screenshots

you know, you can disable a lot of detail in google earth, too.

Thanks. I'll try those. I may have found another good one on Pond5. They seem to have some nice map animations cheap.

Couldn't get World Wind to run on my 64 Bit W7 machine. Says it's only compatible with XP or Windows 2000. Talk about security problems! While they were great in their day, they have more security holes than swiss cheese. It's too bad that NASA isn't updating their package for 64 bit, or at least compatability mode.

that's too bad

(could've swore i used it on vista?)

anyhow...

Best to go with the ones on Pond5. Using maps from Google or Wikipedia will likely create copyright issues.

If you have e.g. Photoshop take some screenshots of Google maps and stich them together.
