Looking for info on Dibi nets

After watching the 2nd unit segment with George Dibi, I became interested in his technique of placing netting behind the lens. I still haven't found anything regarding it's use with DV cams, or even where to find it. Can anyone shed some light on this stuff? Thanks.

well, as far as I know, when you place a net behind a lens, it goes behind the rear element, so with most dv cameras, that isnt an option. It might be possible on the XL line, or JVCs hdv cam though.

That is true, but you can just as easily put the net in front of the lens, not the sunshade. Just make sure you zoom-thru it so the pattern of the net is out of focus. You could try using a cheap clear filter, popping out the glass, and gluing it somehow so it's reusable. Or just get a glass diffusion filter.

Yeah, it would take a screw-driver and a waranty voidance to do that w/ a DVX, you would need a removable lens.

Tiffen makes some great thru-the net filters though.

there is a company, i forget what its called, that makes an empty filer that comes apart and clamps down on a nylon.

I am using a JVC HD100, so I do have a removable lens. It just seems to me that it would interfere with the contacts. Is this an issue? And where can I find the netting? Is this just another effect that the blackmist filter will do?

Yeah I don't know if I'd try it with a digital lens. As for an empty filter, you could use a step up ring. For the netting usually it's just pantyhose. I had a thread a while back where we talked about this, let me see if I can find it.
