is it possible in fcp hd to work with both 16:9 footage and 4:3 footage in the same timeline and cut the two up together like, if i shot a 2 camera video and one was 16:9 and the other 4:3 could i later on switch between the two if say one was my close up cam and one my far?

You can easily cut both in the same timeline. The widescreen footage would be matted
with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen in a 4:3 timeline, that's all.

Does that answer your question?

would it still be true 16:9 or does it cut into the image, like i know if i work in a 16:9 timeline and then u play the footage in a 4:3 u end up with the black bars but all of ur image in there and when u play it on a 16:9 tv theres no black bars.

Well, what you'd be doing is working in a 4:3 timeline with size-reduced 16:9 footage, so
that way they would both display correctly on a 4:3 monitor. So far as viewing on a 16:9
monitor, it would matted within a 4:3 export, so no, it wouldn't be "true 16:9" in that sense.

The other option is to cut in 16:9 timeline and use side-matted 4:3 footage. There's quality loss
there as well since you're squeezing matted 4:3 into a 16:9 frame. So, pick your evil.

Yet another option would be to matte the 4:3 footage, then expand it to fit anamorphic 16:9.
But, it's up to you.

what would u do, im shooting a weeding and ill use three cams 2 of shich r regular mini dv and one is the dvx with anamorphic lens, the client has a 16:9 plasma tv

What would I do? I would tell the client widescreen costs more and I would rent two more DVX's.
Aspect ratio will be the least of your worries when trying to match 3 cameras that are different.
Framerate, Gamma setup, color, dynamic range, the list never ends. And, then there's aspect.

If getting two more DVX's with anamorphic lens isn't an option, I would take the anamorphic lens
off the DVX, shoot 60i, and use some black tape and mark off 16:9 frame lines on the LCD monitors
of each camera. Then, cut normal in a 4:3 timeline, add 16:9 matte, export, import into a 16:9
timeline, and resize the clips to be anamorphised on export, then burn a DVD from that.

I'm sure there's a more efficient way of doing this with fewer stages, but there's a guideline.
Hope this helps.
