Looking for an On-Camera Light Arm...

I've been searching around and haven't found any reviews on arms for on camera lights (only monitors).

I've got an HVX, a Vidled (which IS incredible), and a Senn ME66. I'm doing a lot or run and gun doc work and here's my problem: The light is casting a shadow off the ME66 shotgun off to the right of my frame. So I figure if I get an arm of some sort, I can raise the light, or pull it off to the left, to get rid of the shadow.

I guess my question is, is a lightweight Noga arm (or the likes) the best way to have a shotgun mic AND light on-camera? I've read something about Spider Brace's (I think that's the name) as well...

Any suggestions???
Any threads I've missed???

Thanks.

If you're still looking... I might have a solution for you..

Are you using the stock HVX mic mount? And what kind of mount do you have for the VIDLED?

For my VIDLED I'm using the ball mount from my Varizoom monitor which is similar to this (Swivel Ball Head with Shoe Mount / VIDLED part #: SLS-SSM) and that works pretty. It raises the light up a bit more than the stock VIDLED mount, so that might help your situation..?

The L-Bracket
I use is the SVB-1 - SIMA ACCESSORY BRACKET It's cheap, it works, and it even has two cold-shoe mounts, so you can mount your mic plus another accessory like a wireless recv. Because the L-Bracket's cold-shoe is further back than the HVX's cold-shoe it might not work well for the light, but you can mount the mic there and keep the light on the HVX cold-shoe..

Also just keep in mind that with the L-bracket you will *not* be able to open the LCD all the way! To get around that I just push the bracket forward about 10-15 degrees.

Another option (assuming you're using the stock HVX mic holder and you just need to move the light over a few inches is this Rycote 037303 Hot Shoe Extension Bar

I just retured a Noga 1105 ($109 from B&H), which is the shorter Noga arm. I have a Marshall 7" monitor, and this Noga 1105 almost but not quite supported the monitor, which weighs about 2.5 lbs.

The Noga arm has a centra knob lock that is supposed to lock down the whole arm. It sort-of does that, but the part of the arm under the monitor becomes loose and the monitor suddleny tilts down.

Instead, I have ordered the Zacuto smallest arm and two ZicroMount quick-release mounts. Expensive ($400), but I can't mess around with things getting loose. I will let you know if this is strong enough. I hope so.

I have enough stuff strung all over the carera as it is, without different parts heading South, without my permission.

Thanks,

I've got a ULCS arm setup I'm using for a monitor arm thats not quite perfect due to the weight of the monitor. It is however perfect for an on camera light so its moving to my Vidled as soon as I get my Zacuto setup nailed down with Zamerican Arm and my tax refund back :)

Good to hear Matt. So even with the large arm out to the side and my lh80 on it it wont even slip? That would be the greatest thing ever. I love my ULCS setup but I cant use the long arm I have for it do the torque of the monitor over such a long distance. Its a good excuse to go ahead and get a full zacuto handheld rig too. All counterbalanced and happy :)
