Looking for a way to run/charge both a laptop and hv20 when no AC around?
I am taking a trip in the next few weeks where I am going to need both my laptop and hv20. When the battery runs out on both I am going to need a way to use them - is there a universal battery or something that will work for both? I am on a bus for 20 hours, so the battery will need to be good for at least 4 of those hours...

Thanks

Sounds like the perfect job for Mr. Fusion.

Something like this might work for you, just not sure about it powering both the HV20 and the laptop at the same time.

Well, I hear solar chargers are good, but the draw of power from a laptop might be too much. I know that my present laptop battery only last about 1 hour.

try geting a bunch of batteries?!! yeah stock up !!
and try a an air cell charger ,you cant charge on a bus with solar totaly! while driving!

Batteries for the laptop would be way to expensive and only used exclusively on that - that is why I want something that will be universal and work with my HV20 as well

David - Did you check out the link I posted? That seems like a viable option and you might be able to find some on eBay fairly cheap. If you were to get two of them then you'd be set for the entire bus ride.

This may be nuts, but I was thinking a car battery with an AC converter. But the battery would be a pig to lug around. Maybe a motorcycle battery or two, 1/4 the size. Not sure what the amp/hr ratings on those are. You could probably borrow or rent a used one for cheap. DC-AC Converters run fairly cheap.

Pk,
I looked at the one on Ebay and it hasn't been tested and may not work. Yes, great idea, but kind of expensive new.

The car battery did cross my mind, but not having a lot of room on the bus is making that harder to realise. I was thinking of getting a small 12v battery and running an inverter, but I don't know much juice I will get or if it will be worth the extra space and weight on the bus.

Well like I said, maybe a motorcycle battery instead. They are about the size of 2 lantern batteries and pack a much bigger wollop.

//A quick check, some run from 30 to 50 amp/hrs (some up to 225). How many amps does your gear draw? Should be listed on the back somewhere, or not (not on mine). If it's less than 7.5 amps, that will give you 4 hours with a 30 amp battery.

According to that, lap tops draw from 50 to 75 watts which equals 0.63 amps/hr at 120VAC

So, in theory, a 30 amp/hr motorcycle battery should give you 47 hrs with a laptop. Unless I'm missing something.

Well, that is a good suggestion. I am going to use my 300w invertor for it so I am plug in directly. Now I am just going to have to find a motorcycle battery and test it out!
