Okay, I know the Sound Devices 302 Portable 3 Channel Field Mixer is awesome, but for 1,200 bucks - i'm on a budget. i would like to spend about 5 to 600. Does anyone recommend the Rolls MX422 - 4 Channel Professional Field Audio Mixer? or anything else. I did a search for that mixer but didnt find too much info...maybe someone has worked with that mixer recently..
or how about the Sound Devices 2 channel mixer - will I be really limited with only 2 channels?? It's in my price range.

Is the difference going to be HUGE in mixers? I have an AT897 right now and a Oktava MC012..as well as a Sony lav. going to purchase some wireless mics soon so thats why i need to save some money..but the mixer is where the signal is processed...such a tough choice - if only money wasn't an issue.

Oh..I'm buying all of this to add to my DVX package and to do possibly do some sound on the side.

help.

Yes, I also support the MX422 for those on a budget. It'll get the job done and do it well.

can someone tell me the MAJOR differences b/t the Rolls MX422 4 channel mixer and the Sound Devices 302 3 channel mixer?

can anyone else tell me what they think..with maybe a little more detail....
400 vs. 1200 bucks is a major difference for me.

PSC - DV ProMix 3
$495.00

This is the first product built by PSC specifically for the DV Cam market and has been designed to provide all of the features necessary for today's demanding video shoots. This robust three-channel mixer is battery operated for portability and provides very high quality audio in a compact and lightweight package. Three XLR inputs are compatible with all audio sources including line level signals, dynamic (non-powered) microphone signals and even professional quality, 48PH condenser microphones. Each input is individually switchable so multiple source types can be used at the same time. In addition each input has a convenient switchable low cut filter designed to reduce wind noise during outdoor shoots and is also equipped with a channel assignment switch for added flexibility. High quality fader pots and switches are used throughout the mixer. The outputs are line or microphone level switchable. A super bright, sunlight readable LED meter allows easy audio level settings even while outdoors. Output limiters ensure that the operator does not have to worry about overloading the cameras audio inputs. A tape return function allows the operator to monitor the audio that has been fed to the camera. The ProMix operates from two easily accessible 9 V alkaline batteries.

did some searches..sounds like a more practical mixer for my uses.
and well priced too! thanks MIXERMAN!

this one i dont like aether , was design match camera price not be normal working tool ,with idiotic un detachable limiters for shmoks who dont know how to use sound gear ,
if you need 3 input mixer which give you at least 80-90 % of normal working , good sound and definitely one of reliables for long run, the wendt 3 is my choice
the only luck i see is the uv metering system and fixed limiters (you can close them , but you cant adjust them without open the mixer) and no ms

The man asked for a mixer around $500. Profesional sound corp makes soild equipment. This mixer is designed for DV work at a great price.

Yes a more expensive mixer would be better.

By the way I am a proffesional sound mixer (over 30 years) in and around L.A. and have worked around the country and the world with a profesional sound package.

I dont think he would be a schmuck if he were to use this mixer if that is his budget.
If used with care it would be fine.

i sad it desighned for shmocks , i didnt say he is one of them .
so what he did ask about 500? - better spend 400 more and dont regret for long time later - if he would hold the wendt for 5 years its 12 $ more every month what doesn't justifies spend money on cripple psc.
about psc - never was overwhelmed from their mixers( except the wendt which had psc logo:-) yes it was my second mixer :-)) ,and not that i dont carry their other products ( slate ,powersuplys and cet..).
about dv mix which was build around price point for people who measure their audio by the price of their dv camera ,do they have to straggle with bad equip?
- i dont think so .
by the way ,i am professional sound mixer with 15 years of experience in audio field recording( film /video/hd) and few years in video/audio post services and live on the other side of the planet but worked almost on every spot of the world with or without my sound package and almost with every eng style mixer which exist in last 20 years :-)

and if he will use normal mixer he will be even more fine

audio mixer is a good name , especially if it carry right logo :-)

Sorry but I think you guys needed some comedic relief. I was going to suggest that this guy look for a used SD or possibly a used Fp33, but a Wendt would be the shizzle if he couldn't find a used 302... and I can tell you that those are hard to come by.

I actually don't think the rolls mixer is that bad. For the money, it's actually quite good. I've actually used it, and was pleasantly surprised. As far as differences between the 422 and the 302, the manufacturers web sites would be the best place to find that info.

bee sure its better then dv mix , one important thing - use external low cut filter since the the high pass sits very high on shure or better external preamp like mm1 to get better signal if you work with quality mike ( with smart adaptor could go directly to the mix bus in and make you 4 channel mixer
