as stated, want a solid player that can handle the above. price doesn't matter, but it has to have excellent streaming capability. i've read some players have slow Netflix playback.

basically sick of plugging in my Macbook Pro to my TV every time I want to watch Netflix IP. also would like if Hulu was an option with the player.

i've put this off for a year now, b/c I figured blu-ray players would become more advanced, but they don't seem to be...or are they??

thanks for any input!

+1 for LG's offerings. It's solid. I have the LG590 but if I had to go again just get the 570 for cheaper.

I have a sony, but wish I would have gone with an LG. The netflix interface blows on the sony... you can't search or update or anything. You have to do it all on your computer, then it updates on the player. From what I hear about the LG's (and PS3's), you can do all your searching and adding through the interface on the player itself.

I got a couple Pioneer BR players based on their "image and performance" reviews and they are DOG SLOW... to the point that I want to kick 'em across the room~! It takes something stupid like 2-3 minutes to finally get into the BluRay... and worse... on some movies it won't let you skip through to the actual movie... I'm sitting there hostage to this stupid thing... otherwise you gotta' turn it on 5+ minutes before you want to watch the movie so that it's ready when you are. Finally... the Pioneer players have this great feature where it takes over the TV when you put in a BluRay... so that you actually have to turn your source input BACK to TV while it tries to hold you as a captive audience to all it's preparations.

I bought these before I watched many BluRays and before you could easily rent them... now I wish I wasn't past the return period.

I gave my brother a JVC player... (yes, dislike JVC... but...) that thing has a BluRay at the main menu in less then 10 seconds!

Whatever you get... I would NOT get sucked into the Pioneer "performance" vortex. You can brew a pot of coffee before this damn thing's ready to play your movie.

(It does do all that other crap though... streaming, netflix, etc.)

ps3. it's the most future proof of any blu-ray player because sony updates the device and adds features when necessary. the streaming is very good.

wow.. looks like PS3 might be it... i don't game at all, but maybe that will change..haha.

streaming/quality is good on the PS3? and the remote is decent as well?

We have a Samsung, the Wifi one, and it's terrific.

Really? My Samsung is s..t. Spazzes out, constantly trying to install updates which freeze the system, the streaming quality is bad, and every menu takes at least 10 seconds to load (doesn't seem like much, but I'm not going to exaggerate the point - needless to say, when you're flipping through menus, 10 seconds each is a pain in the ass).

yeah that's what i've heard...i just want decent streaming for Netflix and Hulu. and a smooth menu system. i've waited so long now i figured they'd have decent players already.

I don't think any of the BD players or TiVos let you do much of a search within the device. I just add something in my Q with my phone and it pops up on the PS3 immediately.

A much better resource for home theater stuff is avsforum.com

Software/firmware updates aren't unique to the PS3. Sony's BR players can be updated as well. Most new devices (any manufacturer) offer software updates.

Yes but the PS3 being Sony's flagship gaming console they seem to hop right on any fixings that need done.

Remote wise I'm sure they make actual TV style remotes, but I have always used the dual shock controllers that come with the system. I prefer them greatly compared to a traditional remote.

There's a $20 remote out there that a lot of guys are using.

I went the route of the Logitech Harmony remote with the Logitech PS3 controller. It was a small investment, but it works flawlessly. And I can power on/off the PS3 via the remote.
