Looking for a nicely prepped lens set

Look what we are inspiring in the marketplace http://www.rplens.com/

Pretty cool. I like the fact that they say they are hand matching, standardizing them. If the lenses are pristine, sharp copies, this is not a bad deal.

any idea if they still breathe? are they rehoused or just "adapted"? price seems too low for that so i imagine not.

Zeiss ZF Set is abit expensive compared to what redrock is selling

yeah well you pay for the upgrade of almost $1000 more with the $700 going to the extra 25mm

They remove the stops on the iris and replace or repair the focus mechanism if needed but I think that they would still breathe, I don't think that there is an inexpensive method for making the Nikon and Canon lenses NOT breathe, that would require re-engineering the lens itself.

I am trying to think what I paid for my four lens set. It differs slightly as I only have the 28mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8 and 105 D 2.8 Micro. Let me think

28mm 2.8 - $290.00
50mm 1.4 - $225.00
85mm 1.8 - $325.00
105mm 2.8 - $700.00

I don't have a dedicated case but figure around $200.00 for a Pelican or Storm

Remove iris stops and smooth operate iris mechanism - $125.00 per lens?
Re-manufacturer or repair focus mechanism - $125.00 per lens
Press fit 32 pitch Delrin focus gears - $75.00 per lens
Black anodized 80mm step ups - $50.00 per lens
Rubber 80mm push on caps - $25.00 per lens

So for my set, I get $3,340.00 so I find their prices quite reasonable if you want to do low end professional and you have no 35mm lenses already.

I like the fact that they are doing them as "matched sets". In cine lenses, this is a big deal, as in a matched set of Cooke primes or a matches set of Zeiss Superspeeds.

If I was starting from scratch, I would go for it.

Thanks Dan...I did not know this resource existed.

Awesome

You are welcome Jason, I just stumbled across a link and thought it was cool that someone was able to make a business out of just supplying low end schmucks like us with a little higher quality, more consistent solution.

Man, I bet between Letus, Brevis, SGPro, Red Rock, MovieTube and P+S Technik, there are a LOAD of 35mm adapters on the market. That should be a good testimony to Panasonic, Sony, RED and everyone else that users really want shallow depth of field and a clever way of hitting focus marks built in and we are willing to pay at least a few thousand dollars extra to get it. Figure that we are mostly buyers of $5,000.00 (HVX-200) and $6,500.00 (EX-1) camcorders who have all spent an extra $1,500.00 to $4,000.00 on top of that to just obtain changeable lenses with shallow depth of field. That should send a real message to the manufacturers.

Best,

I don't know for a fact that they have not modified the lens for less or no breathing but I would suspect not. I would contact them for the straight dope.

Sharing is what makes DVX User the best of all of the boards out there by far. I have discovered so many cool things found by the eagle eyed readers of DVX Users.
