Hi there! I'm new here and i had a look around and couldn't find a better place to put this as a question. I know it's not directly related to editing, but it is important for me in determining what to buy as a monitor for high definition editing. I run a macbook at the moment (i know this isn't the mac forum, it doesn't really matter that it's a mac, i just want to give a brief overview) and will soon be upgrading to a quad core desktop mac which will be able to handle high definition editing competantly.
So! I wanted to know if anyone has any advice on a suitable monitor. I'm particularly interested in cinematography so the colour reproduction has to be particularly accurate. I'm looking for a widesceen TFT/LCD monitor between 22" and 24". I've spent hours looking and am pretty much definitely opting away from the apple cinema displays as they are overpriced and not as competant as the competition. I'm also after a fast response time of around 5m/s and good contrast ratio of at least 1000:1. I'm willing to spend up to around £550/£600 if needs be (if the monitor if worth it basically) as i'll be using it for many years to come and see it as an investment for the future. I'm more aiming at the £300-£400 mark though. It also needs to have a 1920x1200 resolution and 1080p. It would be nice if it also had an hdmi and other additional ports on top of the standard dvi port. I need this predominantly to handle high definition editing so feel these are all important and need to be considered.
Furthermore, it would be great to use the screen as a tv secondarily. If it has an arial port and/or port for a freeview box to plug into that would be a great additional bonus. This isn't entirely necessary though. I don't know the ins and outs of which ports are needed for this either, so if its hard to come by then it's not a problem.
It's a big ask, but if anyone has a good understanding of what is and what is not good in the world of the monitor, i would greatly appreciate some advice as i'm quite out of the loop on this one. Failing specific model suggestions, even a kind point in the right direction would be fantastic
I've discounted the apple cinema displays as i think they are too expensive and produce the same results as other brands anyway.
The main potential i've found is the NEC Accusync LCD24WMCX which has pretty much everything i'm after and is well priced (£320ish). I've read a few mixed reviews but most suggest it is good enough for what i need. The trouble is, none of these reviews have been written with reference to HD video editing, so they are only so useful.
I've also seen and liked the look of the benq fp241w, which looks (from specs and reviews) to be superb. However, its a 2006 model and even now still quite pricey at over £400. I just figured there must be something more recent that has come out since, for a similar/better price which is an improvement on this model?
...Perhaps the benq v2400w which is brand new. It looks visually great, but its price (despite some good specs) suggests the colour reproduction might be below par? There aren't any reviews that i can find yet so i've had no luck with this one so far. I'm hoping one of you guys will be able to help me out here. Any comments would be great!
Thanks very much in advance.
