Looking For A Little Help (Vote For Me!)

Don't you hate all those posts where people say, "Hey, go to this URL and vote for my film!!!!"....me too. That's why I'm doing the same thing

Actually, I recently completed my first ever film for an online contest. And I have posted a link to the film at my website in the "other cameras" forum for people to see/comment. However, the contest site has a place for reviews to be posted and I'd love to get more reviews added there.

The voting is being done by an external panel of judges, it has nothing to do with the rating/comments posted at the contest site. But it is a vanity thing, I just want to boost the support :)

If you have a few minutes and don't mind watching my 3-minute short film, you can get to it here: http://visiongatefilm.com/films/browse/?f=80 Mine is at the bottom titled, "Invitation".

For those that are interested, the contest requirements were the film could not exceed 3 minutes and had to be based on a parable from the Bible. Mine is a silent narrative piece and was filmed on a consumer 3-CCD panasonic camera (PV-GS65).

Thanks for your support,
Larry

I remember you posting stills from this, in the Grabs section, months ago. Nice to finally see the finished piece. Great stuff. Some really nice shots in it. The color correcting was perfect and the music worked well. Good luck with the contest!

I too remember your post from the Grabs section. I really liked the colors, looked great. Music worked well too.

...so basically, I'm echoing everything PK just said.

Good luck.

See this is inspirational! Larry starts off with  and ends up with :engel017:

I thought your flick looked really nice and actually I've been wanting to do some religious video myself... I think it's a market that's almost totally untapped (Mel Gibson not-with-standing). I mean on our level doesn't seem like there would be a lot of demand?

My first production would entail resisting temptation... here's the synopsis in smiley form (no words necessary):

There you go now don't steal my script.

Wait, I think you should change the ending to,

There won't be a dry eye in the house.

But I'm sure Hollywood will re-edit your ending and make it,

  (The End. ....Or is it?)

They'll want to leave it open for a sequel.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments...I'm glad you liked the film.

Matt - I agree, there is definitely a market for religious fare. But it has to be real films, not the cheesy stuff that has been turned out in the past (e.g. Left Behind, etc).

Not only do I think you should produce that film you just scripted, you should do it as a smiley animation!! :)

PK - Based on your "notes" to MattinSTL it looks like you missed your calling, you should be a studio exec, sending "notes" to the writers :)

Larry, that was great, I saw that link at work and I finally got a chance to sit down and watch it, it was just really great.

OK I just went back and watched all the pieces, and I hate to gush, but yours is by far the most creative and inspirational approach. I applaud your creativity in presenting the material, it displays a real understanding of the intent of the parable, the photography was great too, but since I’m more of a story guy then a DP guy I’ll let the other folks here talk about your pretty pictures.

Well Done.

Thanks Mythfit, I'm glad you liked it...I appreciate the comments as it helps me know how I did in conveying the message.

Thanks to everyone who has put a rating/review on the contest page for me, I appreciate all the comments! Plus it's nice to have a good rating :)

Thanks for all your support on this, the review count is going up on the contest page. Thank you to everyone who posted a review there...I'm just bumping this thread one last time in case anyone missed it :)

Thanks Again,
Larry

Heh -- don't even get me started.

Good stuff Larry!

I know what you mean... when I start talking about it with people I get all worked up  It's frustrating how people can make such poor quality stuff and then try to pass it off as high-quality christian and/or family fare. Why can't a film be made to the same level of quality in film work, dialogue, action, etc yet not be littered with profanity and vulgarity, for those of us who don't want it.

I'll let it go there before I get too worked up :) Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it. Especially being a fan of your great work!

Bluespider - I didn't use Magic Bullet, I used Celluloid (a plugin for Vegas Video), but it's the same idea. I looked through various color schemes both from Celluloid and from my own experimenting and really thought this one told the story I wanted to tell. It's very subjective though, most people who have commented on it have either really liked it, or have really not liked it.

Thanks again everyone!

Larry
