I've shot some short films and wish to choose a lasting tape to store the final cut videos for keeping as long time as possible. What's your recommendation? Is the panasonic master series good? Or the professional series? Or any others?

pansonic MQ.. but you need to clean your heads and deal with the wet vs dry lube issues if your not running them already.. if the film is short enough.. you could always just put it on DVD.. its quicker to write, and to access, and will likely outlast a tape when stored properly anyway becuase its not influenced by magnetic or electrical or air temp and humidity like the tape is.. its alot more durable and environment proof. as long as youve got a good burn.. heck you can burn like 8 backups for the cost of one tape anyway.

For tape, the Panasonic DVM63MQ's are the best. but *no* tape is what I'd call archival quality. Of any type of digital media I've found hard drives and redundancy to be the best archival solution. I keep a tape master, a DVD master, and backup copies on each of two separate high quality hard drives.

Thank you guys for your precious opinions
I never think of storing in a harddisk before!
I've been using my DVX100A for few months now, haven't cleaned the head yet. I thought we should only clean the head if the recorded image has noise etc.?

I read something a few months ago where they did scientific testing of CDR and DVDR media and found significant data loss after only two years, even when stored untouched in controlled conditions. DVDR's and CDR's that were played regularly suffered more dramatic data loss when compared with HD images of the original material.

Why not store them on DVD? If its the final product then I doubt that you will need to go back and do any additional editing to them. Oh wow, I totally didn't read the above post! LOL!

hmmm, well ..you have to remember that any test which was 2 years long is built on at least 2 year or older technology..but ive never had any issues with ones ive burned 5 years ago. almost all current CDrs or DVDrs are gauranteed an archival storage life of at least 100 years when stored at room temp. of course this used to be the figure for pressed discs, but now most manufacturers claim it of their modern +r -r discs as well.
