Looking for a laptop that will run CS5 without hiccups.

Two days later, they sent this:

We have re-submitted your inquiry to our computer department. They will get back to us shortly and we will be sure to advise you of the situation.
BH appreciates your correspondence and patronage.

I received the following message:

Thank you for all the information you sent. I have spoken to my computer technician and he advised me that this model of computer definitely has 2 bays. one is where the actual hard drive is and the other is usually a empty slot(sometimes Asus will cover it to provide protection, but cover can be removed). The only way it would not have a second bay is if you mistakenly received the incorrect model. Is the model you received as advertised? Please get back to me at your convenience.

So I sent this:

Yes, as I've said, there is a second bay. However, it cannot be used for a hard drive for two reasons. Firstly, the space is occupied by installed memory. Secondly, there is no connector, so there is no way to hook a hard drive up to the motherboard.

B&H's response:

Jordan,

Do you want to return the computer to us ????

My response to them:

I already told you in my first message that the computer is now with me in Israel and that I was not interested in returning it. I am interested in being compensated for the lack of a second (advertised by B&H) hard drive bay. I also had mentioned the fact that I was out $45 for shipping a second hard drive (that was unable to be used).

They wrote back:

We have spoken to several of my computer technicians and they have all agreed that although there is an extra bay on this unit, the connector for it must be purchased as a separate accessory, it is not included in the initial package. As far as the installed memory they don't really know what your referring to. Is there any way you can send us pictures of the unit and the memory that's installed? Please get back to us at your convenience.

My response:

Your site says the laptop has two hard drive bays.

The computer comes with one hard drive that sits in one of the bays. It is connected to the motherboard.

There is a second bay. However, it is impossible to connect a hard drive in this bay because there is no connector, as you now admit. No where on B&H's sales page for this item was it stated that one of the hard drive bays comes with a connector and one comes without a connector.

Asking for pictures at this point makes you sound like a cheap Ebay seller.

I mentioned a while back that our exchange is being recorded on a thread at dvxuser. Perhaps you forgot that as well.

You may wish to check the history of my account. I've spent thousands of dollars at B&H. In your effort to save $45 over an issue in which you were overwhelmingly in the wrong, you have lost a customer. And many people will read about this.

Didn't mean to "pee in the pool" in this thread, obviously, when I started it. Just was shocked at B&H's responses.

The final result (after a bunch more email exchanges): B&H didn't believe me (a customer who has spent thousands of dollars over more than a decade) until I sent them a photograph. They didn't believe this thread and they wouldn't take my word for it. After repeatedly receiving replies only from the "BH Used Dept.", 'Joe' finally revealed his name to me but decided not to provide his supervisor's name or contact information.

But they say they will now issue a refund, $45 for the wasted shipping on a second hard drive and $55 for the lack of a second hard drive bay.

Running PP and AE on a 2011 MBP 15" attached to an Eizo screen. Runs nicely... and man, does Capture One Pro deliver 16 bit tiffs fast with a quad core Sandy xD

I needed a laptop in a hurry and couldn't wait for shipping. Ended up with the BestBuy version of the Asus G73 and am VERY surprised how well it runs CS5 and Lightwave. I just REALLY wish it had esata and expresscard.

I was impressed enough I have an MSI much like it (but with esata! and full HD display) on the way.

This is the first laptop under 2k that feels comfortable editing HD on! I am very happy.

If money is no object the new i7 macs are pretty nice - if only they had a good Cuda capable card in them.

I am very pleased with the Asus G51. I mostly make hard cuts in Premiere and then import the project into AE where I do most of my work before rendering. I haven't tried a ton of effects, but so far there is no need to transcode to DNxHD.

Previewing clips in VLC, having a number pad (0 for RAM previews), and being able to work in 1080p are just a few of the benefits that I've done without until now. Probably doesn't sound like a big deal to most people, but I was using an older laptop. It amazes me that today $900 buys this kind of compact power.

Jason - which Best Buy computer are you talking about?
