I am about to purcahse a lighting kit for my dvx100b but i am not sure what to look for. I am looking at the smith-vector as well as the bescor....does anyone have any advice on what i should buy???
I think the biggest question here is not only what's good but simply how much you are willing to pay.
I agree with BigBoss that an Arri kit is ideal - I just couldn't afford Arri, so I went Lowel with 2 DP's and a Tota light. If you have the time, don't buy a kit but put one together yourself.
iss a good tutorial on putting together your own kit with the knowledge that most kits cme with things you rarely use and you'll end up spending extra money on grip gear that you'll need anyway.
That's my 2 cents.... People either love or hate Lowel. They've been great so far and a friend has been less-than-impressed with his Bescor heads.
Fluorescent lighting is where its at. I use the Kino Flo Interview Kit (3 light) for just about everything I shoot.
There are a few issues with shooting with fluorescent though:
1) The cost. If you want inexpensive lights you need to look elsewhere.
2) Versatility. If you're good, you can make these lights do great things, if not then you can't.
I'd list the benefits but I don't have enough time to write the list.
For me, it was a case of "once you go fluorescent, you can't go back". I may never buy a tungsten light ever again.
