looking for a good 3rd camera

Hi everybody,

I do lots of 3 camera play/musical recording, some weddings--that sort of thing. I have a DVX100A as my main camera and a Sony TRV17 (regular 1 CCD mini dv) for a full-stage shot, and another Sony that's borrowed. I'm looking to buy a 3rd cam. While I'd love a 2nd DVX, i'm still paying for the first one, plus I dont use any DVX-specific features when shooting performances. I'd rather not get another low-end camera, I'm looking for something in the middle.

Can anyone recommend a good 3 CCD cam that would mix well with my DVX and Sony? Obviously the Sony doesn't produce the color/resolution of the DVX but it does much better than other consumer cameras I've used. This 3rd camera's shots will complement the DVX so the image needs to match as well as possible. Color is what i'm most concerned about, beyond that, i'm not too concerned w/ the features of the camera (XLR input would be nice but not critical, I always use the sound board mix from the DVX anyway)

I was looking at the DVC30, I'm pretty confident it would match well, but is there something cheaper that would do the same job? I really have no experience w/ anything else prosumer or professional.

Thanks for any suggestions...

Re: looking for a good 3rd camera

the dvc30 would be a great camera for mixing, the next down is the gs400, then the 200. but the 400 has 1/4in chips like the dvc30 where as the 200 has 1/6 inch chips. both are 3ccd. I use the 200 and it works fine for intercuting with the dvx most people never know the difference anyway's.

Re: looking for a good 3rd camera

Do you happen to have any frame grabs from the 200 that I could look at, or better yet, some grabs from both the 200 and the DVX from the same project? (or a website that has some)

If not its no big deal, I appreciate the recommendation and I'm looking into them.

thanks

Re: looking for a good 3rd camera

The dvc30 has 1/4" good lowlight( but 2 stops slower then the dvx) and really is only 4:3 only, the gs400 has 1/5" so is not as good in lowlight but has excellent 16:9.
Intercutting is okay if you use interlace mode on the dvx100. Otherwise I think it will be very difficult. You can pretty much see the difference in resolution and motion straight away with progressive compared to interlace.
Pick up a second hand dvx100 non A model would be the best bet I'd think.

Re: looking for a good 3rd camera

I use only interlace mode on the DVX when doing the live performance stuff since I've got the other regular cameras, so progressive mode isn't an issue with my 3rd camera.

I'm rendering stuff right know, but I'll try to post something tommorow
