Looking for a film noir motel room

I live in Los Angeles

And I am looking for a seedy looking motel room. Something like the one you would see in the films seven and the number 23. I ve searched everywhere and all i could fine is flat white painted crappy motels. I need one with a visual flair. I figure there might be some in downtown LA I just dont know where.

If anyone can provide some insight i would appericate it

I feel bad cause this doesn't really help you at all. I live in San Diego. But on that visual note I've always loved this one hotel in downtown.

It's just visually wonderful. The way the light plays. The natural framing of it all. I love it.

You might consider building a set. We did it for a film noir we did last year, and I am doing it again for my love-fest entry.

For the love fest, I am just wood paneling some walls of an existing room and building one false wall with a window in it for the light to shine through.

It's not that hard and you get complete control.

The one mistake we made the first time - and the people involved did amazing work - but the thing I should have thought about was you don't have to make an entire room. We did and it was just too big a project. But if you storyboard your shots, you know exactly where you need walls and don't need walls. So you can move stuff, re-use walls, etc.

Also check out "Little Mouth To Feed", that was entirely a set we made from just three walls, the cheapest paneling and some wallpaper from Home Depot.

An interior. Like that old school motels from the film noir films. You know raggedy pattern wall paper ugly carpets.
