Looking For A Clear Synch Solution

I've just completed a documentary in FCP, (shot in 24p advanced) captured, edited in 23.98 with advanced (2:3:3:2) pulldown removal, and after putting it through Compressor (mpeg 2) and making a dvd (in DVD Studio Pro), found that the synch is variably on and off in spots. I've been told to copy/paste the project into a 29.97 timeline before making the dvd, and this should correct the synch issue. Is this the solution? Your clarification and experience would be highly appreciated.

After doing more research, it seems that copying/pasting the project onto a new 29.97 timeline is not the solution. That I should make sure that all the footage I shot with the DVX100b is consistently 23.98 in the timeline (which I"m sure it is). Does this necessarilly imply that all external media footage and animations be converted to dv NTSC at 23.97 as well? This is my first completed feature documentary and of course the synch is crucial, so I'd really appreciate someone's real working experience out there, knowing if this is the right direction or not, at this time.

Perhaps it doesn't seem clear, but the synch problem I'm having is only in making a dvd (I'm using Compressor and DVD Studio Pro), not with the original sequence, or even when exporting quicktime files (these are accurate). Has anyone else experienced this as well and worked it out? Is it worth compressing/burning the quicktime export? Can't seem to get a clear answer. Please help.

Is the actual burned DVD out of sync? Sync in DVDSP is often off but then the actual disc matches the source footage exactly.

Yes. The dvd is only thing out of sync... the original sequence is on in the timeline. I've tried to identify some potential factors above ie. wether I need to convert all external footage sources that aren't originally dv NTSc to that format (23.98), which is a big job on a feature doc, or perhaps burn a quicktime export of the film. But the burned dvd doesn't match the exact sync in the timeline.

I'd export from FCP first to QuickTime ProRes- and confirm it's in sync. Then make that into MPEG-2 and Ac3 and it should line up fine. Chances are you are out of sync in FCP and you don't see it because things are being rendered to match your frame rate.

I'll export a quicktime to check sync, but first, to be sure, from the start, filming in 24p advanced my Sequence Preset is DV NTSC 48. kHz - 23.98, and the Capture Preset is at DV NTSC 48 kHZ Advanced (2:3:3:3) Pulldown Removal. I hope that is correct. I'm working with FCP 5.0.4...can't seem to find the Quicktime ProRes specifically, in export...or maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
