Looking for a "CHEAP" replacement **ARM** for Vinten Vision 3 Video Head

hi all,

i have a bunch of Vision 3 heads as well as other Vintens. i recently bought a used Vision 3 off of eBay but it did not come with the arm. occasionally i need every one of my heads on a shoot so im looking for a cheap (option) replacement before i drop nearly $200.00 for a real (but unecessary) Vinten arm.

would this work?

any other options that would fit? it doesn't have to look pretty.

thanks!

no - the rosette has a different spacing. I've tried to attach a manfrotto pan bar too a Vinten head and while you can attach it, you can't engage the flanges and it slips. that one looks very similar to the manfrotto one I have.

Doesn't help you, but... Vinten makes great heads(I own four), but some of their specs/standards are only used by them. And nothing else is compatible. Like the threads on the tie-down stud, or the pan bar rosette AND the diameter of the pan-bar itself.

yep! i tried a manfrotto arm to no avail.

thanks!

i was somewhat expecting this to be the case. argh!
thanks!

If you search ebay for broken tripod heads or parts, sometimes you can scavange the part you need.

I don’t know if this listing contains what you need, but it shows the typenof listingni am talking about

looking in this pile of junk seems to have what im looking for as to the "screw in" part. dont know about the actual arm though. ive never bid on anything but rather just do "buy it now" on things i get off of eBay. i might reach out to the seller to see if he has firm price to sell it without the bid. can that be done once the seller has started a bid?

this is a good "eBay find".

thanks!

this is good to know. simplifies my options.

thanks!

since we are on the topic of Vinten heads i have a few other questions.

i have 2-Vision 3's & 2-Vinten Blue heads. awhile ago i bought a Vision 3 from eBay for $180.00 overall it works really good...except...it doesn't get quite as stiff as my other Vision 3 that ive had for a long time. it gets stiffer than my Blue's but if i put my C100 with a RR Micro cage & a 70-200mm or 300mm with a monitor mounted its pretty loose. i like more resistance to push into.

ive considered sending it to Vinten to freshen up the insides to get it back to original status (i dont know what you call this process) or im considering another used Vinten but possibly the next step up in payload capacity. ive never touched anything above mine in a bigger weight capacity so im sort of guessing at this point.

there are tons of used heads on eBay. i had a new FSB8 for a few days many years ago but didn't like the feel of it compared to my Vinten's so i returned it. ive played with an old O'Connor once (dont know the model) and it felt nice but i feel safer just sticking with the Vinten feel if i cant test it out.

i have a bunch of A7xxx so the Blue's are good for that. i mostly use my 1DXmkII in a form fitting cage sometimes with the beefier lenses listed above and feel im at the top end of weight for my Vision 3" head mostly because i like it on the stiffer side.

im a HUGE fan of the replaceable "springs" and have most of them except the extreme end. this helps greatly as my Blue's aren't even in the ballpark for the larger loads.

any opinions as to the next logical step up for my situation?

Vinten Vision 5 since im staying with the spring system?

thanks to all!!
