Hey guys, Im relatively new to this forum but I have been up and reading things on here for quite a while and I liked the atmosphere and friendliness of the people. So I decided to post a question here. Over the summer I'm gunna get a job to buy a DVX100b (because some of the footage I have seen is amazing). My question is about the 35mm adapter. Is that all you need to get the results for the DoF of a 35mm? Or do you have to buy something separate(ie. the lens). I have been looking around with no luck for prices and more info about this so if anyone has a price range that will give me the 35mm look I want please let me know. Thanks

-Dan

PS how is the DoF without the adapter? are the results significant enough to buy this device? (I am aware of the process to get a shallower DoF (ie. shutter speed, aperature, lighting etc..))

Im really glad I got such a warm welcome here like everyone else did. I wasnt askin ppl to researh for me just point my in a direction...thanks...

Hey Sheppy,
A 35mm adapter allows you to use a 35mm film lens to achieve the desired shallow DOF. So you'll have to purchase, or build, an adpater, then purchase a 35mm lens. Most people check EBAY for good deals. Take a look around the DIY threads...you'll see what a lot of people are using.

The DVX on it's own can be manipulated to achieve a shallow DOF...but you must zoom the camera all the way in, and this makes it difficult to frame certain shots the way you would like.

35mm adapters

I'm new to the forums too, but I've been lurking for awhile and have found numerous threads on the different 35mm adapters. I remember this thread had a good list of urls for various adapters ranging from $400 - $10k, I think. And of course there's the option of building one yourself, as was just pointed out.

Just do a search on the forums for "35mm adapters", there's so much info out there. As for myself, after soaking it all up, I've just purchased the Redrock M2 adapter. I've seen some great stuff from this thing, but it's $1000. But I bought a DVX100a from ebay, so with the adapter it came out the be about the same price as a new 100b, something to think about.

Looks like the sarcasm got people to come out of the woodwork though:thumbsup:

I Wouldn't say that. I never saw this thread until he bumped it. I generally search for thread using the new post button so his thread might get bumped off and a lot of people never notice

Well either way, thanks a lot guys for the help. I really appreaciate it when people take the time to answer questions that they may think are "amateurish" or w/e. thanks

I'm sure noone thinks your post is amateurish it's just this is a big forum and lots of questions are asked over and over again like , what's that clunk? Which HD camera is best ? How do I make my movie look like film? These question are very general and covered a lot. I know it's much easier to post a new question but most generall questions were probably covered at one point in time. But it's no problem and Welcome to the forum

I spent $600 on the letus flip 35mm adapter. Most 35 mm adapters turn your image upside down and left to right. The flip corrects this problem. The lenses are purchased seperate and depending on the mount you buy, the brand of lense, the quality of the lense the price can vary greatly.

It is the complete system. It flips the image and all that other baloney. You still need to buy a lens though. All you need is the lens and the adapter with the letus.

I recommend only buying it if you need it, desire it grreatly/or iif you have about $700.00 to blow away.
