Look what I did in Vegas!

My peeps reallying trying to get me to move to final cut but i resisted and edited this project in vegas. The footage was shot on f900 and downconverted to DV. DV is horrible for greenscreening but the artist's delivery is on the web, youtube and myspace. So its gonna look bad anyway.

using cookie cutter, color gradient and keyframing... I came up with this.

Beautiful, awesome, sexy!!! Oh, and the video is nice too. That girl -- oh, well.
What kind of lighting did you use? It looks pro in every sense of the word.

See, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about when I praise Vegas's effects capabilities. I'm going to wager that no other NLE can do that by itself, no plugins.

The need for After Effects ($1000) is growing thin, indeed. :)

BTW, Hiro, GREAT subtle use of the newsprint effect.

I agree with your wager, Dave.

Even for being pulled down to DV, this looks absolutely beautiful and the editing is top notch. Of course having great source material to work with makes a whale of a difference too.

I think the effects look great and the keying job is fine for web / youtube delivery.

nice work, Hiro.

Is this for the next Bond movie? :) Seriously nice work though. Can you go into a little of what you did? Especially the footage that made it look like 70's film. Was that artbeats over the video?

The 70s look was tweaked using 3 way color corrector, a lil green in the highlight, a bump in the red in the mid, I was trying to go for the technicolor look. I think i used an old photo for color reference. Reference always helps... I also desaturated it a lil bit too.

for the lighting I think they used leko lights, 750 watts each with barndoors. I couldn't tell you specifically because I was brought on the project as an editor.

Thanks for the comments, I try to do as much I can in vegas as much as possible. I was hoping i didnt have to resort to after effects or anything like that... so im happy.
Id like to see vegas as the industry standard.. but i dont think thats gonna happen anytime soon...just so i dont get pick on by macheads :) haha

How hard is it to switch from premiere to Vegas? Will it work with the 24p mode in the new Sony V1U?

it was hard at first, the interface was different but i learn the program over the weekend doing my school project.

I don't know if vegas would work with the new camera or not.. maybe .. it is SONY vegas, they should support it.

thanks for all the comments! -ramon

Hate to say it Hiro, I dont think its the NLE mate. More to do with the user in this case.

Ronbo, yes the V1u works with Vegas. I did a Vegas-to-Adobe switch (had to because in our class at school we had to learn Adobe), and it was really easy to understand. We did not go very deep into the program, but I just had to get used to increased work-time and inconveniently placed tools in Premiere. You should have a good time experiencing the opposite.
